Friday Question: Who Eats Pot Pies?

This week I used homemade rough puff pastry for the crusts of my chicken pot pies.  Up until now, I've never tasted chicken pot pie.  Back when I made them for Tim, I was still a major Veghead.  So I never knew how flippin' good chicken pot pies were.  Yummers.

Now ... I'm a rough puff pastry makin' fool, writing pot pie formulas right and left.  Veggie ones, meat ones, chowder-style, I tell ya, the ideas keep coming, and for that, I'm thankful.

Meanwhile, I want to hear from you.  Who has had chicken pot pie before?  How about turkey pot pies?  Or really, any pot pie?  Do you have a favorite?  I'd love to hear about it.

PS:  Thanks for all the VERY FUNNY comments on Wednesday's NAME THAT CHEF.  You guys cracked me up.  Best comments ever and to show my appreciation, next time I'll toss in a few Veghead prizes.

  3. I was never a fan of pot pies, until I had your pot pie. That sounds like a completely suck up answer, but its true and there's nothing wrong with being truthful and getting a get out of jail free card at the same time.

  4. I;d have a problem of animal corpses and their souls crying in my belly if I was to ever eat a meat pie.... I'd probably cut my belly out with my own nails to release them.... What's a pot pie?

    1. For me, it's a rough puff pastry in a single serving pie pan, filled with veggies and chicken (or just veggies), and gravy. Then topped with rough puff pastry and baked all together.

      Delish!

  8. I love pot pies, chicken, tuna, beef, all of them. They're easy to make from scratch or store-bought pie crust. And you know exactly what's in it!

  9. I like'em and make 'em. Homemade ones are really the only way to go, so you can put only the good stuff in there! LOL

    Chicken is my favorite.

  10. Too bad, I never have or tried any pot pies before. However, would love to try it one day, but, I don't think I know how to bake it! So, how? Come over to your place for tea and we tried it together? hahaha..

  11. I don't eat pot pies ever. I don't like my veggies and meat all cooked together and never touch anything that might resemble gravy or thick meat broths. Just a personal quirk thing.

  12. My mom always bought the Banquet pot pies and I love those things so much. I could eat three of them. Beef was always my favorite. But they are packed with so much salt and calories!

  13. I love chicken pot pies. Ate them all the time as a kid. We don't make them so much anymore. To do the crust like I like (really flaky) makes it really fattening.

  14. When I was a child we always had pot pies. Mostly store bought ones. It was the 50's !
We even had the tuna ones on Fridays. When Mum made them from leftovers and her crusts they were the best.
Son still we eats them from the Market. I can't because I am watching the carbs.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I haven't. I just googled it. I would try those. Saw some with a maple leaf on top. Love that kind of stuff, where one area eats something and really make it their own.

  18. As a kid Mom would make Pot Roast on Monday, Beef Stew on Tuesday and Beef Pot Pies on Wednesday.
The next week it would be Roast Chicken, then Chicken and Biscuits, then Chicken Pot Pie.
Sometimes in winter we would just get soup for the next two meals..
I've had torture pie, it's good too.

  19. I've never made chicken pot pie, but I've made shepherd's pie, which is a big pot of chicken stew in gravy, with biscuits dropped on top and cooked till they're done. It's very yummy, although you have to serve it with a big spoon rather than handing out individuals. Although I guess you could make individual ones in ramekins. [ponder]

  20. I LOVE pot pies, and have tried (and made) several different types. I would like to put together a veggie one and see how it turns out. It's the only type I've never had (or made).
