Mish-Mash-Ba-Gosh

Here's my favorite thing about running low on groceries. Brewing up whatever mishmashbagosh, I've got on hand. And today, it was all about black beans with lots of spice. Some folks are tossing aside beans, nuts and legumes like they're the worst things in the world, but not me.

No way. Love me some beans.

Know what else I love? Ground clove powder. Up until today, I hadn't ground my own. But then I got a hold of some organic whole cloves and man alive, let me tell you what, toss that powder in with black beans, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, carrots, onions, paprika, cayenne and cumin and wow.

So flippin' good.

  1. I love it when people use the old exclamation "man alive" -- so few people do anymore. I had an older relative when I was a kid who used it all the time and I always think of him when I hear it!

  2. Da Hubs and I are doing the ole "cleaning out the frig and pantry" kind of cooking this week. My son is coming home from college Friday so I'll restock everything before then. Enjoy your beans. I agree with you, people just don't appreciate them anymore.

    3. Sounds like there's something on that menu for everyone. Cool beans. What kind of fruits do you allow yourself to eat?

  9. Our favorite beans out here on the Plains of West Texas are RED BEANS...cooked in the crock pot with a ham hock and lots of black pepper...then served up with Southern Cornbread (NO sugar) and sliced onions and SWEET TEA...YeeHaw....

    1. I love cornbread. I don't like sugar-sweet corn bread either. But I do love red beans. Yummy.

  10. Bean soup is one of my favorite meals to cook. We make canned bean soup out of beans from our garden every year, and then it is so easy to just open a can and make dinner!
