Not long ago we got back from Wegmans and today, I bought hemp seeds, never had them before. I also bought Swiss Chard. Never had that before either, but boy oh boy, it was calling my name. So I took a taste and YUM. And guess what? The organic broccoli and radishes were also heavenly. Tomorrow, my belly is gonna be so happy.
But for tonight, we've got the heat on (as of this morning), and I'm about to hop into my jams, curl on the couch and look through my many wholefoods books, and learn about chard and hemp.
PS: Right now, I have the radish tops in the oven on super low, along with some chard and lots of yummy spices. Just to see if it works.
PPS: I also scored some killer good arugula (rocket).
I LOVE that stuff. So flippin' good.
Love your sketches, Ivy! LOL! :) The heat is on here as well and has been since Wednesday night. I love the cooler temperatures, though. Some good friends of mine gave me some lamb last week and I made a lamb stew, it was delicious! I cut the lamb into chunks and sauteed it with onions and garlic, then I made some potatoes and carrots with it and the stew was delicious! :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool that you made such a yummy dish. Do you like to cook?
DeleteSwiss chard is one of the vegetables we always grow. We just steam it but I'm sure there are lots of other ways to use it. If you squash the water out with a fork after it's cooked it can go down to a tiny amount compared to the large leaves it started with.
ReplyDeleteI bet your garden is wonderful. Yes, many things to do with those lovely large leaves. And the aide to the colon is a big honkin' bonus.
DeleteI use kale a lot and like it in both soups and in a smoothie I make. Radish tops? I didn't know they were edible. Tonight I am thinking of doing braised leeks.
ReplyDeleteYum on the leeks, I got more of those last night as well. I eat the entire leek, including roots. Same with radish, the entire thing. Same with beets.
DeleteYum, Yum, Yum.
I had hemp seed samples at Costco, not bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the kale chip inspiration. My aunt gets her hemp at Costco, too. She's the one that brought hemp to my attention.
DeleteHow did they serve the hemp to you at Costco?
it was in little plastic cups, so a tablespoon or so..it is quite filling
DeleteVery cool.
DeleteBrocolli is good with a cheese or white sauce.
ReplyDeleteBroccoli, YUM.
DeleteIs it the swiss chard that is big or is it you that are petite?
ReplyDeleteThe leaves are so big, that your wife could fan you as you eat grapes.
DeleteHemp seed are yum! And so good for you!
ReplyDeleteCool beans. How do you like yours?
DeleteAll good stuff. There are still so many things I haven't tried yet. Visiting the market is like an adventure sometimes. We've got the heat on, too. It has suddenly gotten so cold!
ReplyDeleteWhat would you like to try, next?
DeleteSwiss chard is definitely on my list. But also apricots, which, believe it or not, I've never had. And rhubarb. I've never eaten that either.
Deletehappy, you are so way far ahead of me, must say. I jsut really don;t like most veggies, try as I might. Bro is ok but argula, beets, cualiflower? Ooh. I am slowly learning to enjoy them more. must contine this trend! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat veggie do you enjoy the most? Is there any that you tried that you've gone back to again?
DeleteWe love Argula (rocket). How about spinach? Do you like that one?
I love the way you are so open to something new..especially food. I see things in the produce dept. at the gro store that I have no idea what they even are...we are in a food rut and I need to do something about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to try new things. Food rut, you just gave me an idea for a post with that titled. Thanks.
DeleteYum! Sounds like some good finds. We love Swiss chard in our stir fry :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good for a stir fry.
DeleteYou can't beat a great selection of veggies ... enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Will do, thanks.
