I Love Veggies

Not long ago we got back from Wegmans and today, I bought hemp seeds, never had them before. I also bought Swiss Chard. Never had that before either, but boy oh boy, it was calling my name. So I took a taste and YUM. And guess what? The organic broccoli and radishes were also heavenly. Tomorrow, my belly is gonna be so happy.

But for tonight, we've got the heat on (as of this morning), and I'm about to hop into my jams, curl on the couch and look through my many wholefoods books, and learn about chard and hemp.

PS: Right now, I have the radish tops in the oven on super low, along with some chard and lots of yummy spices. Just to see if it works.

PPS: I also scored some killer good arugula (rocket).

I LOVE that stuff. So flippin' good.

  1. Love your sketches, Ivy! LOL! :) The heat is on here as well and has been since Wednesday night. I love the cooler temperatures, though. Some good friends of mine gave me some lamb last week and I made a lamb stew, it was delicious! I cut the lamb into chunks and sauteed it with onions and garlic, then I made some potatoes and carrots with it and the stew was delicious! :)

  2. Swiss chard is one of the vegetables we always grow. We just steam it but I'm sure there are lots of other ways to use it. If you squash the water out with a fork after it's cooked it can go down to a tiny amount compared to the large leaves it started with.

    1. I bet your garden is wonderful. Yes, many things to do with those lovely large leaves. And the aide to the colon is a big honkin' bonus.

  3. I use kale a lot and like it in both soups and in a smoothie I make. Radish tops? I didn't know they were edible. Tonight I am thinking of doing braised leeks.

    1. Yum on the leeks, I got more of those last night as well. I eat the entire leek, including roots. Same with radish, the entire thing. Same with beets.

      Yum, Yum, Yum.

    1. Thanks again for the kale chip inspiration. My aunt gets her hemp at Costco, too. She's the one that brought hemp to my attention.

How did they serve the hemp to you at Costco?

  8. All good stuff. There are still so many things I haven't tried yet. Visiting the market is like an adventure sometimes. We've got the heat on, too. It has suddenly gotten so cold!

    2. Swiss chard is definitely on my list. But also apricots, which, believe it or not, I've never had. And rhubarb. I've never eaten that either.
