GETTING OUT OF MY OWN WAY

Last night I ate a big handful of sesame sticks and salted cashews, and boy did I pay the price this morning.   Puffed up ain't a pretty look.  And it felt like someone hit me upside my skull with a hammer.

Not fun.

Thankfully, my headache is gone now and my eyes aren't glued shut anymore.  Meanwhile, on the stove top simmers a veggie leves (soup), in one pot and in another, pork bones from last night's goulash.

My plan, is to simmer the raw meat off the bones, then use the meat and stock for dog treats.  I also tossed in carrots because Wiggy and Bug LOVE carrots.

My goal for the week is to complete five new dog (or cat), treats, because Tim convinced me to put them into a zine or a POD book, and I tell you what, I feel a little scared doing this.  Last night I went to bed thinking, what if my formulas suck?  What if nobody buys my zine/book?  What if I I suck ... you see where I'm going.

Anyway, I pushed all those thoughts aside and started work on today's puppy bake.  Pork and carrot biscuits.  Kind of simple but also, pretty darn cheap as I'm using leftover bits.  And better yet, the excitement of writing a new bake, has helped me to get out of my own way.

Go me.  Rah.

Wow, this is a long post.  Maybe it's because I know that after this I have to go collect dog poo from the back yard.  Now that our snow is gone, I see all the little gifts the girls left me.  So someday, I'll have a published zine/book about pet treats, but today, I have go clean poop.

MADE THESE AWHILE BACK

  1. Putting up your first 'zine or what is scary as hell. Trust me, I know. After I put up my first book, I had a nice round of dry heaves that scared the crap out of DH.

But you're never going to know what will really happen until you do it. And the end result is never as bad as the nasty little voice in the back of your head tells you. In fact, a lot of the time, it's a much better than you expected.

Hang in there! Tim's a smart cookie. He wouldn't steer you wrong, girl!

    1. Thanks for the wonderful inspiring words, Suzan. You're the best.

Just pulled the pork bones off the stove. The meat fell right off, love that. After I'm done in the yard, I'll be able to mash the meat and carrots into a paste and make biscuits.

Right now, I'm more excited about that one bake, than I am scared that I'll suck.

Now ... to keep that going, is a whole other matter. Again, thanks bunches.

  2. 'tis a poopy Monday for you :)
I remember the times when my cats and dogs actually ate better than me :) It was back in the days when my late dad worked as a cook and he would bring them all the leftover cheese, sausages, hotdogs, stakes, bacon and I would put all those treats into their cat and dog plates thinking how I haven't eaten cheese, sausages, hotdogs, stakes or bacon for years myself because they were expensive and we never had such food in our fridge. Those were heavenly years for my pets :) and hellish ones for my own tummy :)

  3. Sorry you have to go clean up poops :(

And I think Tim's idea is a great idea. I know lots of people who bake for their pets.

  6. I always hated to clean up dog poop after the snow melted. What a mess. P-U! Another reason to hate snow. :)

Put a picture of your puppies scarfing your biscuits on the cover and you'll sell plenty of books/zines!

    1. It is a horrible mess. Thank goodness we only have two dogs. Ugh.

I have a picture of Wiggy eating an Oatman that I'm going to post soon. She's too cute.

  7. So are you allergic to Sesame seeds and Cashews??? If so why the hell eat them? Is it that female gene??

    1. Not allergic, just can't handle that much salt before bed. I wasn't even thinking.

Female gene ... you crack me up.

  10. Yes, go you! You are a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen. I bet you'll end up creating quite a few great books. Pet treats, bread, soups...you name it!

I love your header. Cuteness overload!

    1. That is cuteness overload. When I see that picture of their little faces, I think, they don't think my dog treats suck. And I feel all better.

  11. As you know, Ivy, I can totally relate to this post. Those blasted insecurities have a way of circling around our brains. I wish my positive thoughts were as persistent as the negative ones can be at times. But, you have loads of skills that I'd love to see you share with the rest of us. I can't cook a darn thing unless it's from a recipe - sure, I can substitute, but really create from scratch? No way. That's a true gift to share. (Better than the gifts the girls left for you!)

    1. Thanks for the kind words of support. I am having fun today with it. Right now steamed organic carrots are on my stovetop and I just blitzed oats for the flour. These two things will be the base for today's puppy bake test batch.

  12. I would buy it too! I think it's a great idea and I know plenty of other people that would like it as well. Ah yes, the dreadful part of the snow melting, finding all the presents from the animals. I feel your pain!
