Today I Made Organic Beet Root Powder

Right after I juiced the organic beet roots, I took the pulp, put it in the oven on the lowest setting and baked it.  I was curious what would happen and boy am I glad that I did.

It tastes so good.  Just like beet root slices that have been fried, but without the heavy oil and salt.  So flippin' good.  I'm excited to bake with this.  I can use a powder in a bake without messing up the liquid weight.  So fun.

Or I can use it as coating for something.  More fun.

Although, I keep eating it so I don't know how much powder I'll have left.  Actually, it's not powder just yet.  But it will be once I run it through a machine or smash it with a rock.

    1. Did you see that post? I traded Tim dishes for going to get his game. Thanks for catching that. I think, you're the only one that caught that. Not sure though.

  2. Nope, I just caught it too. I think it may be where the post ended. It just caught my eye. Darn you Alex for saying something first!

Okay, so I see the beet root powder. Looks interesting. I'm kinda on the fence with red beets though…

    1. You know, until you mentioned that, I never noticed that was a spot to see things. That's good to know. I'll have to use that for fun bakes and stuff, another time.

      Thanks.

PS: The best beet I ever ate was from a local farmer last summer. Organic baby beets. Oh my lord. I sliced them and ate them raw.

But the beet I had today, even though it was organic, wasn't very good, and I couldn't even drink it. So I was real happy that the pulp baked so well.

    2. I don't think I'd be able to drink any kind of vegetables. Maybe if they were disguised in some kind of fruit juice, than may be. I keep saying I'm going to hit up my local farmer's market but I never do. I need to just do it!

    3. A green apple or even an orange can really help. Same with a sweet baby beet.

    1. I haven't used your idea for dough yet but will for sure let you know when I do. Curious to see what it does and how it works out.

I'll make that Valentine bread yet, so thanks for the red dye idea. Way better for me, than using chemical dyes. Or whatever they are called. I really don't know.

But the dried veg itself, has a wonderful earthy crunch. Going to give carrots a go, next time I juice them.

    2. In your area, do you have bags of crunchy root veggie chips/crisps? We have it here but sooo expensive.

Thanks to your pink Valentine dough idea, I now have an idea for my own root veggie crunch.

So much fun. Wish I could send you some of this stuff. It's super good. I had to make myself stop eating it.

    3. no, we don't have dried veggies at all. You'd probably be shocked to see what we don't have here :) but the absence of all possible industrial made things and products makes you more creative and makes your cooking more natural and healthier. We just have to make everything we eat from the scratch

    4. I tell you what ... I agree. Not having something, just makes me find a way to make it myself. And that beet root powder online, the price, no thank you. So I wanted to see if I could make my own, and I'm glad I did.

      Have a groovy weekend, Dezzy.

    5. you should try it with raspberries too because they'd give a nice taste too!

    6. Raspberries are in the works.

My plan is to make every fruit and veggie powder, taste and use for all kinds of fun things. Including raspberry sage tea, which is one of my most favorites. And then make my own ginger peach tea. All with the powders/dried produce.

    7. can I recommend you make Serbian legendary spice called 'vegeta'? :) Make a powder out of dried onions, celery, parsley and carrots and mix it with some salt. Put it in a jar and use it instead of salt in all your savoury dishes. It will change your life, trust me :)

  4. So, you bake a dozen cookies and . . . how many make it to the cookie tin? Uh huh, that's what I thought.

I shudder to think how many calories I've missed out on during my recent illness. Yep! Taking about your baked goods! LOL

Never had baked beet root. Love beets though!

    1. I wanted to make dough pink and Dezzy suggested beets. But the cost of the powder was way high so I figured I'd try and make it at home with leftever juicing pulp. And it worked.

Sorry you've been sick. Hope you're feeling better now.

    1. I wanted pink dough for Valentine's Day and Dezzy suggested beets. Only the price of organic beet root powder was too rich for my blood. So I decided to try making my own.

    1. I didn't know about it either until Dez mentioned it. But the cost of it was WAY too rich for me, for the stuff I wanted. So I made my own.

And now ... I've got all kinds of fun ideas.

      Have a great weekend, Martha.

    1. I keep eating the dried beets. I might not have any left, come bake time.

The puppies are very good. Both sleeping. How are your girls?

  8. Would the pulp normally go to waste? Awesome that you can use it up and make something you love out of it. :)

    1. Depending on the produce, I usually use my pulp for different things, including dog treats.

But yeah, if someone didn't make use of the pulp, it'd just be waste.

  10. I had an aunt who was into beet juice, carrot juice and all that good stuff. I love beets, but I want them cooked or pickled. I had no idea about beet root powder so thanks for the info. It is nice and pretty though and your dog header is the best!

  11. Love your creativity with the beet powder. I happen to beets, and especially the roasted one, mixed in salad.

Congrats on your couponing and getting all those free great products.

Also, I adore your doggie...sooo cute, and sweet!
