I've said this before but I gotta say it again, homemade fermented veggies kick the asses of every store-bought, ready-made jar, I've ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot. Not only that but the cost comparison isn't even on the same planet.

This reminds me of the lady who got me started making my own cranberry sauce--as I may have mentioned before--she said it would change my life, and it did. I haven't bought canned cranberry sauce since. My folks really spoiled me growing up with home canned and frozen veggies. Factory canned corn just can't hold a candle to the homemade stuff. And I imagine your fermented veggies are the same way. Great that you are able to do it for less than it would otherwise cost.ReplyDelete
I make my cranberry as well. Heaven. Pure heaven. The bacteria is so much stronger in my stuff. More pure heaven for my good belly bugs, doom to some of the bad bugs.Delete

I feel your pain. Mold, yeast, dairy and a bunch of stuff used to be on my not able to eat list. And mold can be on so many foods.Delete
Thankfully, I keep my veggies below the brine line and thus far, zero mold or yeast has formed. If you're interested, you can google how to keep yeast and mold from attacking fermented veggies. There are even great Youtube videos about how to safely ferment veggies.

Fermented veggies do sound funny, yes. But think of yoghurt with good bacteria.
