Move Over Suzy Homemaker

Last week I kicked butt.  Now that's it's Monday again, I get another crack at a brand new week.  I love that.

One of my goals, is to have foods ready for the weekend.  Because even though I cook everything from scratch, I still struggle on the weekends that we're out and about.

But since I don't believe that convenience foods are worth the money, I have to think ahead.  So this week, one of my goals is to bang out a freezer prep day.  A mass production of pizzas, sub rolls, calzones and/or strombolis.  I'm ready to kick butt and make my weekends easier.

Move over Suzy Homemaker.  There's a new Whisk in town.

Did you put hearts on Tim's site again this year?

    1. Boo and hiss indeed.

Before Christmas we ate out someone to the tune of 31 dollars for a crappy starter, two mains and a tip and it made me sick to think of good money, wasted.

I haven't been out since, though I'm not saying never, but for now, I have zero interest in wasting money on crap foods.

  4. Now I really feel like a kitchen slacker!

  5. I used to use my weekends to prepare meats for the busy weekdays when my kids were little. I seldom do anything like that now.

    1. Back when I was going to school and working, I would prep for the busy work week. It was fun.

  6. When I cook I make huge amounts. Fortunately my husband enjoys leftovers. That's what gets us through!

    1. We are leftover people as well. And my gosh, some things taste even better the next day.

  7. I really admire that you make everything from scratch! I have never enjoyed cooking and baking.

  8. Hubby hates leftover, but I have a freezer filled with cooked foods, soups, baked goods, etc. I either cook a meal from scratch each night or defrost something I've made previously. The whole family went out to Bertucci's on Saturday for Hubby's birthday, but I didn't go. I have a severe allergy to garlic and can't eat anything on their menu. Most of Bertucci's food is pre-made and they can't adjust it to my needs so I won't go there again. We did have a huge birthday cake that Hubby made. He does most of the baking theses days. Since we are getting clobbered with over a foot of snow right now, on top of what we already had, and more snow and ice later in the week, I'm so glad I have a freezer filled with food. On the downside, I worry about the power going out.

    1. Hey Pat. Happy late birthday to Hubby, from me and Tim. Love the freezer stockpile. Our power goes out every now and then and it's something I am concerned with as well. Not fun.

Sorry to hear about the garlic allergy. That's gotta be hard when eating out, for sure.

    1. Pictures are fun, but I only post a fraction of what I really cook and bake at home. Otherwise, it'd be picture, picture, picture. Too much.

  11. You go, girl! That is the best way to cook --- in bulk! Whenever I make meals, I usually make enough for a second time. Or third. Or fourth. Depending on the food. My spaghetti sauce usually turns out about 4 - 5 portions. Makes cooking that much easier.

  15. I think the ultimate convenience food is an unheated pop-tart

  16. You're so right, convenient food isn't worth the money. Plus, it isn't exactly the healthiest of food to consume. But, sometimes, it's hard not to succumb to temptation and grab a greasy burger from Wendy's =)

    1. For what they charge (off the dollar menu), for one big burger, I could make several better tasting ones at home. But it's easier for me to say now that I'm home all the time.

Which is your favorite of theirs?

  17. Good for you! I recently did the same thing for our weekly menus. It makes life so easy and less trips to the grocery store.
