Last week I kicked butt. Now that's it's Monday again, I get another crack at a brand new week. I love that.
One of my goals, is to have foods ready for the weekend. Because even though I cook everything from scratch, I still struggle on the weekends that we're out and about.
But since I don't believe that convenience foods are worth the money, I have to think ahead. So this week, one of my goals is to bang out a freezer prep day. A mass production of pizzas, sub rolls, calzones and/or strombolis. I'm ready to kick butt and make my weekends easier.
Move over Suzy Homemaker. There's a new Whisk in town.
Smart move - prepare ahead so you'll eat good on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteDid you put hearts on Tim's site again this year?
Not yet. Not sure what I'll do this year to his blog, was thinking about that last night.
DeleteWait a minute! You're saying you're NOT Suzy Homemaker? :D
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty good, Stacy. I think I just might be.
Deleteboo and hiss at convenience food.....
ReplyDeleteBoo and hiss indeed.
DeleteBefore Christmas we ate out someone to the tune of 31 dollars for a crappy starter, two mains and a tip and it made me sick to think of good money, wasted.
I haven't been out since, though I'm not saying never, but for now, I have zero interest in wasting money on crap foods.
Now I really feel like a kitchen slacker!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel like one, as well.
DeleteI used to use my weekends to prepare meats for the busy weekdays when my kids were little. I seldom do anything like that now.
ReplyDeleteBack when I was going to school and working, I would prep for the busy work week. It was fun.
DeleteWhen I cook I make huge amounts. Fortunately my husband enjoys leftovers. That's what gets us through!
ReplyDeleteWe are leftover people as well. And my gosh, some things taste even better the next day.
DeleteI really admire that you make everything from scratch! I have never enjoyed cooking and baking.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you dislike the most about it?
DeleteHubby hates leftover, but I have a freezer filled with cooked foods, soups, baked goods, etc. I either cook a meal from scratch each night or defrost something I've made previously. The whole family went out to Bertucci's on Saturday for Hubby's birthday, but I didn't go. I have a severe allergy to garlic and can't eat anything on their menu. Most of Bertucci's food is pre-made and they can't adjust it to my needs so I won't go there again. We did have a huge birthday cake that Hubby made. He does most of the baking theses days. Since we are getting clobbered with over a foot of snow right now, on top of what we already had, and more snow and ice later in the week, I'm so glad I have a freezer filled with food. On the downside, I worry about the power going out.
ReplyDeleteHey Pat. Happy late birthday to Hubby, from me and Tim. Love the freezer stockpile. Our power goes out every now and then and it's something I am concerned with as well. Not fun.
DeleteSorry to hear about the garlic allergy. That's gotta be hard when eating out, for sure.
Can't wait to see the forth-coming pictures!
ReplyDeleteYummy!
Pictures are fun, but I only post a fraction of what I really cook and bake at home. Otherwise, it'd be picture, picture, picture. Too much.
DeleteOoh...my friend makes a stromboli bread and puts American cheese in it. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteAmerican is so milky and wet, but does taste yummy melted.
DeleteYou go, girl! That is the best way to cook --- in bulk! Whenever I make meals, I usually make enough for a second time. Or third. Or fourth. Depending on the food. My spaghetti sauce usually turns out about 4 - 5 portions. Makes cooking that much easier.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Did you have a favorite bulk dish to make or bake?
DeleteI love spending a day making things for the freezer. Feels good and future me is always thankful.
ReplyDeleteFuture me, I love that. Anything your favorite to make ahead of time? I like the personal pan pizzas because they freeze so well.
DeleteI'm just loving those little animated pictures - sooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with filling up the freezer! Cheers, Jenny
Animated pictures are fun. Hope you're enjoying your new blogger challenge. Good luck and boogie boogie.
DeleteCalzones and pizza are always welcome!
ReplyDeleteThink along the lines of fluffy kittens for Tim's page for Valentines...
Fluffy kittens, with little hearts floating around their heads. Gotta be girly.
DeleteI think the ultimate convenience food is an unheated pop-tart
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one. Any special kind?
DeleteYou're so right, convenient food isn't worth the money. Plus, it isn't exactly the healthiest of food to consume. But, sometimes, it's hard not to succumb to temptation and grab a greasy burger from Wendy's =)
ReplyDeleteFor what they charge (off the dollar menu), for one big burger, I could make several better tasting ones at home. But it's easier for me to say now that I'm home all the time.
DeleteWhich is your favorite of theirs?
Good for you! I recently did the same thing for our weekly menus. It makes life so easy and less trips to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteI remember having to do that too, back when I worked.
