What? How is it another day already? Can someone please tell me where they go?
In other news, last night Hubby stopped to get subs. 38 smackers for two large subs. Sure, we'll each get two to three meals each.
Still. Almost 40?
Nuts to that nonsense. I'll make our own.
In other, other news, Saturday we hit Barnes and it was WONDERFUL. Sunday we opted to skip Barnes and stayed home. Lemme tell ya', I played in the kitchen all ding dong day long.
Between cooling times and dirty dish, I also plopped on the couch to watch The Spring (and Summer) Baking Championships. I love those do-some, sit-some kinda days. And dig this, I wrote a new formula for sprouted spelt baked cake doughnuts. More on those soon. For now, I'm headed to work, even though I'm daydreaming about writing new bakes.
Chat again soon. Huggs & Bugs, Me.
Always good to do what makes you happy. Were those subs gold plated? I always make my own - it costs much less and I know what's in it! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteSo true you know what's in it. That's the best. Ha Ha Ha, on the gold Plated. That's funny!
DeletePrices are nuts. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cheryl! Hope your week is yummy.
DeleteEverything is stupid expensive now.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. Thanks, Alex.
Deletemy dream is to win 500 million and live in a house without a kitchen or a house with a kitchen I have no access to and a cook locked in said kitchen. the thing about the subway, when you buy all the stuff needed to make them, it will cost way more than the bought one. here even cheap balonga is 10 dollar s a pound, 8 if not boars head. all the lunch meats are 10 to 14 a pound. that is expensive for subs, Publix is 12 for one
ReplyDeleteprices are nuts for sure. when I scan my purchases at WM, nothing rings up for under 4 and a lot is over 10
I don't buy lunch meats, so I don't know the cost. Sounds crazy high to buy a whole pound. What my mom always did was just bought the amount needed to make their meals. If Tim wants a sub, I'll do that too. Just get enough slices for one sub.
DeleteDo you shop at Aldi? I get great deals there. They have produce that hasn't gone crazy high and I love that. They also sell lunch meats only I have no idea the price. I enjoy the fresh stuff at Aldi, though the store sells a lot of crappy junkie foods as well.
Happy Almost Weekend!
That's a lot of $$ for a couple of sandwiches! I think you can do better making your own. The labor's free, for a start.
ReplyDeleteIt really was a lot and the subs were barely filled. Which was odd because we had them a week ago at work, and the subs were yummy. Mine was nicely filled. Hubby said when he went after work to get ours that it was mostly kids working.
DeleteThat is a LOT for subs. I hope they at least tasted good. I also love being home and playing in my kitchen. I love your drawing. I hope you have a wonderful day!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori! Being in the kitchen is the best. Sadly the subs weren't good this time. Hubby said the place was packed with mostly kid workers. When I had the subs at work the week before, during work hours, the subs were much better.
DeleteYikes! Those must have been fully loaded subs, but still, what a price!
ReplyDeleteSadly they were barely filled.
DeleteWe don't eat out anymore. The last time, a couple of years ago, breakfast was $50 including tip. That seems like a lot of money. You know when old people tell you time goes faster as you get old? It's true!
ReplyDeleteWhoosh, each day, speeding faster. I blink and the day is done.
DeleteWow I hope those subs were good!
ReplyDeleteWe rarely eat out anymore; something I really miss. Here with minimum wage for fast food employees at $20 an hour, even McDonald’s is expensive! The only fast food we eat is In and Out.!They’ve always paid their workers over $20 a hour so the new law doesn’t effect them and their prices are good and their burgers are good! There is a local deli I do go to where a sandwich and drink is $8.99 and it’s one of the best. The local places are struggling so if we are going to go out, we’ll throw our cash to a local eatery rather than a national chain. Last month we spent over $50 at a iHop for a simple breakfast!
Sadly, no. They sucked. Which was too bad because when we ordered them from work the Friday before the subs were great. When hubby went to pick them up though for us at home, after work hours, he said the place was crawling with kids working behind the counter. And they just didn't do a good job.
DeleteYeah, that's insane, 20 smackers an hour. I like the local stuff too. Back where I lived before, I only went to locally owned private sub shoppes and they were gooooood.
Wow, fifty for a breakfast chain for two. Crazy nuts these days.
We've built a weekly dinner out into our budget (usually spend somewhere between $40-$50), but we have the luxury of not saving for a house
ReplyDeleteThat's cool that you budgeted the money for that. Sounds like a system that works well for you. We have done that before, though now, we don't eat out much so we no longer need a budget for that. So true, saving for a house changes things for us.
DeleteThose subs are expensive! Love how you enjoy playing in the kitchen! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletePlaying rocks!
DeleteThink I'd be making my own too, for that price!
ReplyDeleteFor sure now. That was crazy high.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear the subs were so expensive but also relieved to know that it's not just us here in the states where food is high priced.
ReplyDeleteHey Jeanie! I'm in the states too!
DeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I loved seeing yours. You are so creative and enjoy being in your kitchen. Me, not so much but I love seeing what others do..(:0)
ReplyDeleteSue
Hi Sue! Thank you for the nice words!
DeleteHi, thank you for stopping by The River. I am popping in to say Hi. I love your creativity!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carla! Cheers, Ivy.
DeleteWOW, that was expensive for 2 subs. I think just about anything is outrageously priced these days though.
ReplyDeleteWas crazy. Not again for sure. Loved your spring in doors. So pretty.
DeleteWow. That is pricey.
ReplyDeletewww.rsrue.blogspot.com
Thanks for stopping in. Cheers, Ivy.
DeleteVery, very pricey. And I am sure that ones you make yourself taste better.
ReplyDeleteI think so for sure. Thanks, Sue.
DeleteIt seems that everything is getting more expensive!
ReplyDeleteI do like your drawings.
Enjoy every moment in the kitchen :)
All the best Jan
Hi Jan! Thanks. So fun to play!
DeleteI love those kind of days too. That is a lot for two subs!
ReplyDeleteAren't they fun? Do-some, sit-some. I love it.
DeleteThe price of food has really skyrocket even if you buy it and make it at home. But $38 dollars is outrageous! Hope they were really delicious!!
ReplyDeleteThey were not good this time. Though we ordered them at work the other day and they were very good. The night crew though, was a bunch of kids and they just didn't have their stuff together. Barely any fillings and just not good.
DeleteGirls just wanna have fun! I do like days where I get a good mix of actually doing something and getting to sit some.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I love those kinds of days too. Thanks, Rose. Have a great week.
DeleteThat is expensive for 2 subs. I love to bake but baking days will get less and less with good weather coming.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Hi Cathy. Do you ever bake in the air fryer? Might help with the hot days coming.
DeleteWow, those are pricey subs. Were they big? And it sounds like you're having some nice time off. Sitting on the couch and watching some baking shows is a good way to pass some time. Enjoy your Wednesday tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThey were called giant subs. Thanks, Erika. Back to work this week though the weekend was sooo nice. Wishing you a wonderful day ahead.
DeleteIf you do get six meals from those subs (three each) it works out to about $6.60 per meal, which isn't too bad. Making your own means buying the ingredients, (buns and fillings), but if that works out cheaper, go for it. It really depends on how often you want subs I guess.
ReplyDeleteThat's fair. Tim ended up getting two and me three and when we break it down. Still though, at home I can get these prices much lower. If Hubby wants another sub, I'll pick up just the amount of deli meat for that one sub. The rest of the fillings I already have on hand. And for me, I have my ingredients mostly here too. For him though, I'll just get just enough. Think it'll still be less money and taste better too. They barely filled his sub.
DeleteIf you find out where the days go Ivy, please let me know. That's a lot of money for two subs, food is so expensive nowadays. My favourite honey yoghurt used to be £1.10 now it's £1.60!
ReplyDeletelololololol, Polly. It just goes so quickly! Whoosh.
DeleteHi Ivy, you are very clever if you can write your own formulas! We don't eat out nearly as much as we used to and nothing too special, except for special occasions like birthdays, and with family and friends. We got in the habit of cooking at home and realizing we enjoyed our own food more than we did at a lot of the restaurants, and those prices too. Still, it's nice to get out occasionally. I'm thinking now that the warmer weather is coming along, I'm going to pack us a picnic and head to the countryside. Used to love doing that as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI love writing formulas! It came from needing too and now, I just love it. I love the picnic and head to the countryside. That sounds soooo fun!
DeleteHello, happy to meet you Ivy! I love your blog :) And I agree - eating out has become unreal, so we definitely "eat out" at home. I make most of our food these days, and we feel better just eating at home too! I don't know where the days go either... !
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn! I agree, we feel better when we eat home too. Just that sometimes with running around it's nice to grab and go. Same with me, where do the days go? They whoosh so quickly! Thanks for stopping in. Cheers, Ivy.
DeleteI'm sorry, but $40.00 for two subs is ridiculous! A sub used to be like five bucks. What is happening? My daughter and I love watching Baking Championships, especially the Kid's Bakeoff on Food Network. I'm amazed at how talented those kids are. I'm looking forward to your sprouted spelt cake recipe! I'm really into sprouted breads, flours, even pumpkin seeds these days. Thank you for the kind and thoughtful comment over on my blog. I'm so sorry to hear you also recently lost your mom. I know how you feel. Thinking of you and sending hugs!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia. I'm sorry you lost your mom too. Sending big huggs back. I agree, the price is nuts. He placed the order and didn't know it was gonna be that much AND, dig this, they had one of those machines that asked for a five dollar or under tip. Hard pass.
DeleteSprouted stuff is so good. Do you like to use sprouted spelt? Oh my gosh, so fun.
