Monster of Frankensteined Brownie Bake

Still chipping away at the updated photography space. For me, going back to the lower tables and saw horses makes shooting easier. Hoping by the end of this coming weekend it'll be done, done, done.

Donesville.

In other news, a warm batch of brownies cools as I blog on the tablet, outside with Bug. It's a new formula I wrote based on two other recipes I wrote before. I monster of Frankensteined my own bake.

This just in. We sampled the bake and it's less of a brownie and more of a soft chocolate cake. That's okay too. Sometimes I'm headed one way, and the ingredients decide to go their own way. Regardless, I always have solid notes to bring to the next bake I write.

Which works because I love writing bakes. For example, I decide how many grams of sprouted brown spelt to use. Or will I go with oat flour? Sometimes it's both. Which fruits and veggies will I sneak into a bake and how many grams of each? I'm telling you writing bakes is the best! And baking doesn't have to mean high sugar, refined oils, eggs, dairy or cholesterol. Nope, nope. I don't bake with those ingredients. That said, I love, love, love watching the Spring, Summer, Holiday and Halloween Baking Championships.

Such fun shows! Highly recommend.

And that my Boogerbutts, is all that's fit to print. Just gonna pop another bite of bake in my gob and call it a night. Chat again soon.

Huggs and Bugs, Me.

  1. My baking almost always includes sugar, eggs and dairy, especially my brownies which I make with brown sugar so they are fudgy.

    1. Fudgy is a great word for the texture. I'd say these are too though not as fudgy as some. Happy Baking!

  3. I love watching the Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship series too! Right now, it's the Spring Baking Championship, of course. There are quite a few Canadians among the competitors this time. But now only two are left -- Kate from Salmon Arm, BC and Steven from Toronto. I don't know if either can go all the way, but we'll see!

    1. It's a fun series for sure. I don't know yet who will in on this one. By now we can usually get a good feel for it. We also started watching the Summer one on Discovery. Happy Watching, Debra!

  5. You are not afraid to experiment! And really, even if a recipe doesn't turn out as expected, it is still likely to be good and be edible. I love the cooking contest shows too!

    1. Hey Ginny. No fear here. If it works it works and if it doesn't, then it's time to learn why. I get that from my grandma. We used to play all the time in the kitchen. What's your fave cooking contest show? For me, it's baking ones.

  8. Glad the chocolate cake brownies were good. We don't use white sugar at all in our house.

    1. Same. Plus, white sugar to me, boring. No taste. All sweet.

  10. I’m with MadSnapper on your drawings. They are really cute! Great tips too and how I could go for one of your brownies.

  11. Cakey or chewie, a brownie is always good. It sounds like your staycation is going great. And I'm with you about watching those baking shows. I'm glad baking has become so much more than it was in our grandmother's time. (Although my grandmother was pretty experimental for her day.) Enjoy your play time and photographing. hugs-Erika

    1. Oh my gosh, we loved staycation. Baking with Gram is the best! She's gone now however both her baking and cooking sticks with me. I get my play spirit from her. We always tried and did new things to see how they would work. It's the best! Huggs, Me.

  14. Brownie cake sounds good to me. I am thinking of making a wild plum galette, but it will contain sugar and butter. I am more of an explorer with savory rather than baking. I usually follow a recipe. I also enjoy your whimsical drawings.

    1. Ohhhhh, plum. Yes please and thank you. Sounds delightful. I am not a big sweet fan so that's why my bakes are low sugar. I just write them the way I want to eat them. Though I totally get that folks like to use dairy, eggs and white sugar. And I love watching the baking shows! Happy Baking to you with the galette. Sounds delish! Thanks for the nice words about the cartoons. PS: Love savoury too. I only do savoury in the mornings because I can't handle sweet at all in the early morning.

  20. I love Brownies, I am never successful at making a Brownie. Why do I always make chocolate cake and not a gooey chewy Brownie? Even a packet of Brownie mix has the same result - not successful. So I would love a fool proof Brownie. Yours sounds perfect. Can't wait for the photos.

    1. Fool proof brownie. I love that name. Have you tried taking them out five minutes earlier? For my chocolate bake, this one that I wrote, it comes out five to ten minutes (ish), earlier than the other bakes I've recently written. That might help with yours.

  21. Your brownie/cakes sound good ... keep enjoying them.
I think it's fun to experiment/change around some recipes, you never know where it will lead.

Enjoy the rest of Thursday and have a fabulous Friday :)

  22. Hi Ivy, I'm a fan of creating my own recipes with regards to bread and cakes. As I only cook with coconut flour it can be challenging. But like you, I love it - and have finally perfected the best bread recipe. It makes superb crackers (1 hour at 180F in my Ninja air fryer - best purchase ever). Yup, baking rules!

Your brownies/cake sounds yummy. I'm all about a chocolate cake.

Happy baking, sending smiles your way, Jenny

    1. Hey Jenny! Why only coconut flour? Are you Keto? I've heard Keto folks really love coconut flour. It's a fun flour to use and the hydration is different than other flours (as you know). Very cool that you make a bread that works so well for you. I love that!!!!!!

    1. Hey Jeanie! I get that for sure. I'm more of a fruity fan than a chocolate fan. However, I do love a good chocolate bake too. However if you give me a pile of dark chocolate and a pile of organic blueberries. I'm going blueberry all day long. What kind of bakes do you fancy?
