Have you ever had lamb or duck? I've had neither but would like to give both a try. How about using cinnamon with meats? Both Martha and Linda use cinnamon on their meats. And now I want to give it a go. Once I accidentally added cinnamon to my lentil soup and it was yummy.
How about you? Meat with cinnamon? Do you eat lamb? How about duck? I hear duck fat is to die for.
For the Vegheads, what's your favorite vegan meat-like product? I loved the hot dogs. True. In fact, I used to eat them cold from the fridge. Also true.
I went to an Indian wedding once and lamb was served. It was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. That said, I would not go out of my way to eat lamb. Poor wee creature. I had duck when I was in Quebec and it was delicious! Again, wouldn't go out of my way to eat it. Very expensive!
ReplyDeleteDuck and cinnamon is a classic combination (I think it is part of the classic Chinese 5 Spice mix). Lamb and cinnamon also works as part of a Moroccan style tagine with dried apricots and/or figs.
ReplyDeleteI've had lamb, but I don't believe it had cinnamon on it. As for duck, I don't remember. Maybe when I was in England. I've had alligator before. It's chewy.
ReplyDeleteI've had both Lamb and Duck. Lamb with spices and apricots and cuscus is lovely.
ReplyDeleteDuck, I like that most when it's roasted and shredded with plum sauce, flour pancakes and cucumber.
I may have that tonight now you have me thinking :-)
Ian
I've eaten both duck and lamb many times. Duck is pretty fatty but very good, wild duck and farm-raised duck are very different in taste and wild duck must be cooked more carefully as it is much leaner than are farm ducks.
ReplyDeleteLamb is something I eat as often as my budget allows. Stay away from those ridiculously overpriced loollipop chops they are they are pretty bland cuts. Note: lamb and mutton (older sheep) have very different tastes with mutton being stronger and gamey compared to borring old beef. There plenty of lamb in the markets near me i can usually find groun lamb, a variety off chops, leg of lamb and stewing lamb. I enjoy lamb with curry spices or garlic.
If you enjoy lamb and mutton go look for some goat, it generally tastes like dead in the middle of the lamb to mutton spectrum but somehow tastier.
Duck is actually the neighborhood specialty of the part of Busan where my in-laws live. So yeah, we have duck fairly often. I like it. Here in Korea, it's usually stewed with sweet and spicy sauce, or stir-fried with salt, pepper and veggies. Peking Duck, which Ian mentions above (plum sauce, cucumber, wrapped in a pancake) is really good, too.
ReplyDeleteMutton is the sort of meat some people don't like because of its fragrance, but lamb tends to not be so pungent. I'm fond of lamb or mutton curries, myself. When I was a kid, my uncle would have a family/company gathering once a year and roast a lamb. So obviously, you can see I like it. My wife, however, really can't stand the taste/smell of it.
Lamb curries are pretty darned good, even when insanely hot.
DeleteI find duck heavy and fatty (oily or greasy if less kind words are used) and lamb is a much stronger tasting meat than beef, pork or chicken. I can get it down if there's lots of mint jelly or some other sauce with it. Mutton is inedible as far as I'm concerned. Had it in England once -- and once is enough.
ReplyDeleteLamb itself is pretty mild meat, the issue is as it get older sheep do taste stronger a lot of meat labelled as lamb should probably be labelled mutton.
Deletewe had ducks in our yard when I was lil' but I refused to eat them when they killed them.... I know that they are tough to pluck and some of the feathers always remains on them ....
ReplyDeleteI've only had duck once in my life. I thought it was okay, but I don't think I'll ever eat that again. Just not my taste. I'm not a big lamb fan, either. In fact, come to think of it, I'm not a big meat eater. I could easily become vegetarian. I enjoy light meals, and find that meat is quite heavy.
ReplyDeleteOh, and good morning, Wonder Woman! I want to wish you an awesome day ahead. On my way out to run errands and pick up some groceries. Have a good one, ya hear?
DeleteI've had lamb once but duck many times. We raised them at times on the farm where I grew up. Very greasy meat and not something I cared for. Cinnamon in meat. Don't know about that one.
ReplyDeleteI've tried it multiple times, but I just don't like the taste of lamb. Duck is better for me, but occasionally a little too rich (i.e. kinda greasy like the comment above indicated). We DO use duck fat for cooking~ toss it with cubed potatoes and add a little salt/pepper and bake= the best potatoes I've ever had.
ReplyDeleteThe only Thai food I really care for is a simple fairly light soup made with cabbage and few slices of duck meat (per bowl). Pretty yummy stuff.
DeleteI've had lamb before. I haven't eaten duck in years though.

I've had lamb and duck. Not a big fan of duck. Lamb is very sweet, and can be good, but it is a little fatty.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to fix leg of lamb every Christmas Eve. I loved it, especially with the apple-mint jelly. Mmmm...
ReplyDeleteDuck, though? No thank you. I dont' like dark meat and that seems to be all duck has. It's just too slimy for my taste. I know, that's probably the fat, but it's slimy in my mouth. :)
Don't eat lamb (shock horror coming from NZ) or duck.
ReplyDeleteFavourite non-meat product: TVP and Quorn.
Lamb is eaten a lot here, esp with gyros. I've had a lamb roast with Lipton onion soup mix on it, it was just OK. Lots of duck here also, we have it during Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. A lot of times on the grill. It's good, but not sure how cinnamon is with either of them. Lots of pheasant, deer and bison here also. Deer jerky is great!
ReplyDeleteI've had both, I love all kinds of different foods, being a foodie and somewhat of a glutton.
ReplyDeleteI adore both duck and lamb. We have it quit often.
ReplyDeleteOne year for Christmas dinner we had duck breast and it was fabulous. Son is a fabulous cook. And yes duck fat is a treat.
Love anything with lamb. In fact I grew up eating lamb, especially at Easter.
My Mum was an adventurous cook and we ate everything. Dinners at our house was fun. And all on a budget.
I don't care for cinnamon so I would not put cinnamon on any meats. Even when son cook Indian food he cuts it back for me.
Good luck
cheers, parsnip
Boogerbutts: Oh my gosh, thanks for all these great comments. I loved reading them and learned a good bit, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks bunches & boogie boogie.
