Running a tad late today but that's okay, this office looks amazing (aside from one table). Now, I'm about to toss together some dough. It's between jalapeno cheese bread, onion bread, cinnamon bread or pepperoni bread.
Did the pepperoni bread this week, so that's out. But I did just buy killer fresh jalapenos. Though cinnamon bread would be good for morning. But as I sit here, jalapeno cheese bread sounds the best. I'm going to juice the pepper and use the liquid in the dough, to test what kind of kick it produces.
Which brings me to my Friday Question.
If you could eat any bread, bagel, or roll fresh from the oven. Any bread-like item, for your next meal, what would it be?
Jalapeno cheese bread! That's the answer to both.

DeleteI never have any luck with baking rolls. They always come out terrible. I like sara lee rolls that are already made

DeleteAs a kid I adored pork cracklings scones or buns (one of specialities of my Vojvodina) , but since me no eats meat anymore, I'd ear anything with wholemeal flour.....

Deleteit's one of the most famous of our national recipes - you basically mince the pork cracklings, mix them with certain amount of butter and spread it over the layers of dough during multiple kneading....

it's one thing that I always feed foreigners :) and lard buns with plum lekvart.... I don't eat that myself, but I know those are the most delish things ever :)
DeleteLekvar is a homemade staple in my world. Lard, I sometimes make, but not a big fan of buying it. Mamam used her own, as well.
Deletewe had lard in winter after they would butcher a pig for meat.... And tones of pig's fat too.... We had huge buckets of it throughout the year.

That's a really tough question...I would say a spinach and cheddar scone for savory and a hand pie like yours for sweet, cherries are my favorite.

ReplyDeleteThe best breads were the one my Mum made warm from the over plain or with some butter !
But her best bread were the ones she made for Easter. Light braided bread with raisins or the rolled one with poppy seed filling. We are Polish and Easter is always filled with the best spring foods.

DeleteThat Jalapeno Cheese Bread sounds amazing. I used to LOVE bread... I mean LOVEEEE it. But since I've become gluten/wheat intolerant, I've had to do without. It's like a part of me just died.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, when I was living in London a solid decade ago, I used to buy Brioche, (a slightly sweet roll) just loved that with fresh chedder cheese :)
I am soon to make a chocolate brioche, as it is on my To Bake List.
DeleteI am sorry you can't deal with the gluten but there are many other options, like almond, flax and corn flours. Rice flours and really, just a bunch of non-gluten goodies. But I suppose that depends on what is in your area.
