Made another batch of brownies yesterday using a recipe I found in a brownie book. I thought they'd be good because they called for almond meal and I use that in many of my own formulas. Only they weren't good. And after eating them I got a horrible headache.
I didn't like the headache, but what I did like is the technique of folding whipped egg whites into the brownie batter. I've used egg whites for other applications but never brownies. I'll happily use that trick again. But for right now, I'm brownied out, as I'm not a big brownie eating fan.
In other news, today I'm fixing to use an idea I have to make Halloween Mummy Dog Biscuits. If it works I'll post it.
And that my Boogerbutts, wraps up today's post. Thanks for reading and remember to always have a spooky day.
PS: Tim bought me this funny little mummy. So cute.
Nice bobblehead mummy.ReplyDelete
They had to be bad - I mean, how can a recipe screw up brownies?
Do you follow Katherine's Corner? (I think that's it.) If you need some ideas for cool things to try, you'd enjoy her Monday posts. I can send you the link...
He doesn't bobble so much, but he does look ever so cute on my writing desk, next to my skull and crow.Delete
Got the link but looks like no metric baking :-(
we always whip the whites separately when making sponges and cakes and ad them to the rest of the batter in the end.... The only time I don't do it is when I'm making a savoury cake or roll with savoury sponge....ReplyDelete
Yeah, I've done it before Dez, just not ever with a brownie. Not big into brownies but I'm learning them because Hubby loves them.Delete
I prefer them to sponge cakes because they're creamy and moist! But I don't like them with too much chocolate or cocoaDelete
It's interesting because back when I as a prep cook, some liked the brownies burnt and some moist, some like over-baked on the outside and under baked on the inside. Very much a mix.Delete
I have a cheesecake brownie in one of my bake books. Curious to give that one a go, but not yet. Right now my brownie tastebuds need a break.
Underbaked Like lava cake :)Delete
I don't do cheesecake... just the very thought of sweet cheese makes me feel no good....
No, under-baked like gross. Not pretty like lava, but gross like in gross :-)Delete
Are the cheesecakes near you super duper sweet? If so, that's an easy enough fix.
no, it's just that the mix of the sour taste of cheese and sweet sugar isn't something inviting for me :) There's a trend of using sour cream mixed with sugar as icing for cakes too, and I hate it as well... I will eat cheese and sour cream only in savoury meals.... But I generally don't tend to eat cheese.... at least not soft cheese.... I do like the ones for pizza....Delete
That's understandable, it's not for everyone. I do love sour cream and I will put a bit in my scrambled eggs.Delete
I have seen many formulas with sour cream for brownie mix too. Haven't tried it.
Pizza cheese, that is nice. Have you tried Muenster cheese on pizza? I love it. Mild but tasty.
Sorry about the dodgy batch of brownies. It's so disappointing to make something you think will be good and discover it isn't.ReplyDelete
I don't find it disappointing. It's all part of learning and trying something new. I could have done without the major headache, but learning to use whips in brownies was great fun, since I never thought to use the egg whites there.Delete
Hallowe'en Mummy Dog Biscuits? That sounds like fun!ReplyDelete
They were fun, but too thin (was trying something new). Next time I'll go back to thicker.Delete
How goes you today?
Halloween mummy dog biscuits... Now, how cool is that? Simply 'spooktacular'. Couldn't resist that...ReplyDelete
Too bad about the brownies. But when you can't eat something, you just can't. In any case, you've learned something from that and that's good. Always a lesson in everything, I say.
LOVE that mummy. So cute. You got a good hubby there :)
Yeppers, Martha. That's how I think too. Always a lesson, always happy to learn it. Just makes baking all that much more fun.Delete
Was just at your place. Great end of the season photos. You two love birds sucked every drop of fun and I love that.
Have a spooktacular day, indeed.
PS: I'm about done with work, just paying some bills. Love being done this early.
that's unfortunate they turned out badReplyDelete
The headache was the worst bit.Delete
That mummy doesn't look a thing like Arnold Vosloo.ReplyDelete
I had to google him but now I know who you mean.Delete
A bobble-head mummy? Cool. Not a big brownie eater though having some warm out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream could tempt me about any time.ReplyDelete
He doesn't do the bobble action, though he has a spring. The one next to him had a snapped neck. I dunno, something a muck but I don't care, he's too cute.Delete
Me either on the brownies, that's why I'm brownied out right now.
sorry it didn't turn out, hate when that happens. I love brownies, the moist chewy ones.ReplyDelete
It's all good, because now I'll play with that method in my own brownie writing.Delete
