Ice Pups

The manager at the pet store told me how she stuffs canned Blue dog food into Kong toys, and lets it set for 24 hours in the freezer.  Since I received three FREE cans, I gave it a go.  And she was right, 24 hours and that stuff was solid.  Took both pups and hour to finish their frozen treat.

I also made more ice treats, using the cavity pan that I usually bake doggy biscuits, in.  It's very easy.  Just a little canned food, some flour a bit of water and bam, easy to work with doggy dough.  I like the Blue canned, the best.  As and added bonus, it doesn't stink the kitchen while it bakes.

And the dough is fun to play with.

But no biscuits today, just ice pups.  Meanwhile for me, I'm groovin' on a Tim Horton's blended caramel iced cappuccino.  And looky here, it's four in the afternoon and I'm already home from work and in my jams.

Life is good.

These are Kong toys, filled with wet dog food, and frozen solid.
These are great cavity pans, filled with water and solid dog food.

And here's the flip side with fun grooves.
 I love kitchen toys.

  4. Super cool and lucky pups!

My girl doesn't like Kongs. I know. It's crazy. I've tried on numerous occaisions but she simply won't play with rubber or plastic toys of any kind.

If she can't chew it or tear it like bone or a stuffed animal it is of no interest to her.

  5. Barking Alien: So happy to see you here. Hey, how 'bout those hollowed out bones? The lady at the pet store says she stuffs wet dog food in those, too.

We have two hollowed but they are HUGE and I don't want our little pups to eat that much in one setting. But if I ever find smaller hollow bones, I'll grab 'em.

  16. Thanks for the Kong tip - I'm a fan of Blue, both the dry and wet but I never thought to do this.

See...I learned something new today...it was worth getting up and dressed just for this. :)

    Cheers, Jenny

  17. I did this with the Kong toys for my Lab when he was a pup as he had trouble with teething pain. My vet recommended it. My doggies would love you Whisk!!

Anne: Did you try baking biscuits with the dog food? So much fun. How's the garden going?

Alex: Hey, just what in the heck are you doing here today? Aren't you on holiday????

And yes, I really do spoil them.

  20. Aw, man, my first beagle would have loved these frozen Kong treats! Heck, she got a lot of entertainment out of chasing an ice cube across the kitchen floor.

The two pups we adopted after her? Forget it! Wouldn't touch a Kong with a ten-foot pole in their mouths. DH speculates that the unpredictability of the Kong triggered something related to their past abuse.

  22. Suzan: I've heard of quite a few dogs not digging the Kong toys. How 'bout a hollowed out bone?

Miss Marathon: It's fall-like here these days, but also very nice.

Hope you get some summer soon :-)
