Boogerbutts: To those of you that answered quinoa, I award you three bagels and a toothpick. For everyone else who played, you win as well, because I just like to give out prizes. Only difference this week, nothing moldy, rotten or broken.
Hey bj - Each seed is covered in saponin, which can taste bitter. If you drop the quinoa in a bowl with clean water and agitate the quinoa with your hands, the soapy bubbles with form. Unless, your quinoa comes 'pre-rinsed'.
Easy test, pop a few raw seeds in your gob and see if you like the taste. Though, keep in mind there is a difference in the bitter taste of saponin and the bitter taste of rancid. Fun stuff, but worth it in the end, for those who enjoy quinoa.
