I found Monster Inc. minis at Five Below. Super small. Super fun. Five smackers for a box of six characters and other bits and bobs.
Below I posted the BTS and what's nice about behind the scene stuff is I get to show you how I use inverse square law to create a black background. Inverse square law is the rate at which light falls off.
In short, when my camera is set at maximum sync speed, the off-camera flash can't reach beyond the monsters, making the background look black - which also works with the DIY black photography board I placed the monsters on.
Pretty cool.
In other news, last week I bought a cheap stick blender and after a few days of playing with it, Smoochie Face ordered me a Bamix. The Bamix stick blender comes with useful accessories and four different blades.
I have a long list of things to make on Tuesday and plan to spend the entire day in the kitchen writing, testing and playing.
Beyond excited.
Beyond.
And that my Boogerbutts is Macro Monday for this week. If you'd like to join me in close-up photography and macros, I'd love to see your photos.
Until next time, cheers and boogie boogie.

Ivy, you are so talented. 😍 Your little characters made me smile. I hope you have a great week ahead 💓
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! Thank you. And such a deal for five smackers. Snowing like made here. Hope you're staying warm.
DeleteWow, this looks so totally professional!! Your knowledge is way beyond any photography stuff I can do!
ReplyDeleteHey Ginny! I just came from your blog and I LOOOOVED your photos. I don't know how to get a big moon shot like you do. And that yellow cart and yellow tree. LOOOOOOOOOVE it. Truly one of my most faves of all time, things that are yellow. And you know what? That makes me wanna do a post called, THINGS THAT ARE YELLOW. Thank you for the inspiration and fun.
DeleteGood macro's, well done. Enjoy your Bamix.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret! Loved your Rose of Sharon. They are a peaceful flower/tree to me. Thanks regarding the Bamix. Should be here today. Very, very, very excited to get to work and play.
DeleteYour photos are excellent. You really know your stuff.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann! I'm learning more and more about light and the laws that go with - it's mind blowing. Just so fun. Hey, guess what? Found a Christmas hat I yarned last year. Made me think of all the groovy stuff you make. So fun!
DeleteHope you're staying warm today.
Excellent! You are getting really good with that macro.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! Thanks, learning about flash and also having this newer lens is a blast and a half.
DeleteLove these shots and your enthusiasm for photography and life in general! Carry on…
ReplyDeleteHi Marie! Much thanks. Like you, I just enjoy shooting. It's great fun.
DeleteThose little minis are so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteOMG Debra. I just can't with the cuteness overload of these minis! So fun.
DeleteI love that black background! The photo you shared is the cutest!
ReplyDeleteMuch thanks, Mari! And I enjoyed your spooky fall tree with the single unmarked stone. That's a printable photograph if I ever saw one.
DeleteThanks for the peek behind the curtain shot showing your setup
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy! It's fun to show the BTS as well as the finished product.
DeleteGreat work, once again! Have fun with the Bamix!
ReplyDeleteMuch thanks, Abby. The Bamix is out for delivery as I type. Safe travels to you riding home at night.
DeleteWOW that is a bargain and love love the black background, thus the one on my blog. alas! alack! I have no camera, not macro lens, no light to shine, but I do have a cell phone that is truly mine. I will ask Sir YouTube how to do this with my cheap little Galaxy a14.. this is the stuff I LOVE and I LOVE YOU TOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteHey there Wonder Woman! I just got back from catching up on all your wonderfully powerful posts. I love reading how you're getting stronger and stronger and you really are a tough cookie. I admire you a great deal from my heart to yours. Much, MUCH LOVE to you from me.
DeleteNice work!
ReplyDeleteMuch thanks, Christine! Love the soups you've been posting. Yum.
DeleteImpressive, Ivy.
ReplyDeleteHi Debby - Much thanks. It is so fun to play.
DeleteI love the little monsters! I have a stick blender with a whole bunch of different attachments, but I only use the stick part to make smoothies in summer. There is a small blender cup attachment and a mini processor attachment, but they have never even been out of the box.
ReplyDeleteThank you, River on the little monsters.
DeleteVery cool about the stick blender. Smoothies sound good. So far I've made a few different plant milks and one seed and berry drink, as far as drinks go. Very fun to play with. Will you ever play with the rest of the stuff? I have used the mini processor, two came with mine. Very fun.
Yikes on the skeleton Santa! Have fun with the stick blender.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Hey Cathy! Looks like you had a good day too today. Very cool. Love that drink you made yourself.
DeleteHi Ivy. It looks like you have been having a lot of fun with your camera while I have been away. Love all the cool images.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. 😊
Welcome back! I read your new post and how freakin' cool is it that you got to live the same day twice. That's wild!!!!
DeleteA great new header! I really like my stick blender too. So easy to care for and it works so well!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, that is it too. So easy to care for and works well. Really blows my mind. So many fun things to make. What do you like to make with yours?
DeleteVery cool picture. I am not at all a very good photographer. Enjoy playing with your stick blender, they really do come in handy.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hi Jackie! Really, really having a fun go with it. Thanks! Best to you and your projects too. Sounds like you're gonna have a fun trip and I love that you meal prepped. Well done, you.
DeleteHappy Macro Monday Ivy ... just love that photograph of the Monster Inc. minis :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
All the best Jan
Thanks, Jan. Macro Monday is fun so far. I like it. Loving all the foods on your page. Really, really fun. Thank you.
DeleteThose Monster Inc. minis made for a fun project, Ivy. Years ago, I had a nice macro lens with my digital SLR and it was great fun to use, but that equipment is long gone.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beatrice! Did you end up selling it or giving it away or just got lost in the shuffle or life? I saw your Zippo post and I loved your photos. So true about the not made to last thing. I love when I find a company that offers for life, though harder and harder for me to find that. Wishing you a wonderful rest of your week. Cheers and boogie boogie.
DeleteYou are having fun with your camera! I like how you can make the background look black in some of your pics. Have a good time in your kitchen with your new stick blender.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
Oh yeah, loving the lens and the fun. Thanks, that black background comes from the inverse square law and it's sooooo fun to play with. Thanks for stopping in and wishing you a fun weekend ahead.
DeleteYour little minis are adorable and a great way to be having fun with your camera. great photo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judee. Got them at Five Below. Most of them anyway. Some from other stores like Barnes and TJ Maxx.
DeleteAw, I love them! Seeing these mini reminds me of other small toys my boys had growing up. My youngest son and I have been eyeing some macro lenses for our shared Cannon but I haven't bitten the bullet yet. I think it would be a lot of fun to play with though!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I love my true macro lenses. Hope you bite the bullet. It is beyond fun to shoot. And, there are excellent 3rd party macros as well. I have native and third party. Crazy fun. Stop on back if I can be of any help.
DeleteThank you for visiting my blog. Its great to see that you are into photography. When I retired back in 2012 I joined a camera club and ended up being the tutor. I had to teach myself a lot so that I could teach others. However, as years have passed on and I've got older and slower I have left my Canon 5 in the cupbourd and i just use my iphone 15 now. Good for you for still being artistic and a keen photographer. Unfortunately I don't share your flare for creating in the kitchen. But I do have a Bamix stick.
ReplyDeleteHello Diane! Draw with light from Greek, I didn't know that until this morning thanks to your blog. I always called it painting with light. Love that I learned the term draw as well. Because well ... I love to draw too!
DeleteThe Bamix and learning light are both new to me and so far, loving them both. What do you like to use your Bamix for? Yesterday I made mayo for the first time. Mind blown how easy and good it was to make.
Yes, learning photography is a wonderful thing. I just love it. I love that you ended up being a tutor. You are very interesting and I'm happy I found your blog. I've heard a lot of good things about iphone cameras and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Thanks for stopping in. Cheers, Ivy.
I love the effects you create. I still have a SLR camera. Years ago I enjoyed playing around with macro and zoom lenses. Now and again I think I will start using it again but my phone camera is so easy to carry around and takes good photos.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that, Polly about the ease of use regarding the cell phone. I get that. I think there's a lot of folks that feel that same way. Understandable.
DeleteForgot to say your Bamix looks lovely, I'm sure you will have lots of fun with it 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm over the moon with this gift.
DeleteOh how fun! Macro IS my favorite thing to do other than using a long lens to 'shoot' birds and wildlife once in a while. I never have used an off camera flash but you are doing wonders with it!
ReplyDeleteYes, so fun! Sounds like you have fun with photography too. One of my good friends is into wildlife as well. As for speedlights and off-camera flash, for macro it works wonders! Hope you get to give it a go some day. Really fun to play with a small speedlight and also, a BIG strobe indoors is fun as well. Cheers, Ivy.
