GOTTA GET OUT OF MY OWN HEAD!

Hello Boogerbutts!

I'm stuck in my own head today. We're moving and with that, a second paycheck is a HUGE help. I'm on the job hunt and not feeling confident, at all. Drawing cartoons and writing helps so here goes ...

I haven't worked outside of the home in eight years. I think it's eight. Either way, it's been a hot minute. And even though there are so many jobs open right now, like a crazy amount, I feel insecure. How do I explain why I've been out of work so long?

I know why I'm there to get the job, because we want a house/land. That part I feel really strong about.

Then I start going over applications and work history and I get in my head to the point that I let it stop me.

I can't do that.

As for the eight years out of work, they whooshed past. Even I don't know what I did in all that time. There was a huge part of it where I couldn't walk and had some serious infections. That was the reason for leaving. I’m scared they won't hire me in case I get sick again.

I dunno.

Like I said, I'm really in my own head right now. However, the reason we're doing this a strong reason. To have our own land. OMG. OMG. OMG. Our own garden. So that's my focus, getting out of my head and into a new life.

Finishing up this post I hear my Grandma's words. She believed the worse they can say is no and if we don't ask, we'll never know.

Grams are the best.

  3. You can do it, Ivy! They don't need to know why you left.
And you will so enjoy your own land and a garden. Think of all the things you will bake and cook then.

    1. Hey Alex! Happy 2023! I now agree with you guys on that they don't need to know. There's no reason to go into detail and I'm there to work now. Oh my gosh, all the garden stuff. That's the focus. Thank you for the good vibes and wonderful comment.

  4. I'm rooting for you, Ivy! If a prospective employer asks about your absence from the workforce, just tell them you were being a homemaker during that period. No need to elaborate or explain, in my opinion. Then quickly move on and say but now you want a job again because you and your husband plan on buying a house and need two incomes for that. Wishing you good luck and keep us posted!

    1. Thank you Guru Goddess! You are the best. It's true. I don't have to explain. I'm there now to work when around here, many aren't even showing up for interviews. The focus is on the house and there I loved being a homemaker and to do that in our new place, we need two incomes. So true. Thank you bunches!

    1. Thanks, Sue. We have to make it work. That's the thing, right? House won't pay for itself and a second steady income, man alive, that is huge. So true. Land and home are wonderful incentives. Thanks for your good vibes and lovely comment.

  9. I can relate to this somewhat. Since my boss passed away this past year we've been unsure of what will happen with the store. I've been worried about having to start over somewhere else and I think how will I find a job at my age.
Best of luck to you and your grandma had good advice.

    1. Hey Ann. Oh my gosh, sorry to read that he passed. You know the thing about age, I'm not sure how it is by you, here though, so many ages working. Teens, young adults, grannies, grandpas, just such a lovely wide age range that I see in all positions. I love that. Than you for sharing your story. All of these comments helped. I sucked in that good energy from y'all.

LOVE the cartoon of you and your computer. maybe you can find a computer job that is work from home. job hunting was the source of much anxiety and that kept me working in jobs i hated because i hated more looking for a job.. prayers for you to find a job just right for you and for peace while doing it... job hunting now is all about on line. when I was looking it was door to door... good luck. and are you moving to the new land now? moving is so stressful all by itself.

    1. So true. Many remote jobs. I looked a few remote writing jobs. So true what you say, many online. Even online interviews these days. I do though enjoy the go in person approach the best. I like to get the vibe of the hiring manager and shake their hand. So different today. And I hear lots and lots of people aren't even showing up for their interviews. That's crazy to me. Moving will happen as soon as we find a place. Though once I get a job and steady second pay, that'll really be a game changer. Thank you for sharing your story with me. It really helped a great deal.

  13. I would feel the same way if I ever had to go job hunting again. Maybe a good answer to why you've been away from the work force is "our financial situation allowed it and I wanted to pursue personal enrichment." Now you have new goals. Practice saying it with air of confidence. I think it's a lot more common than people think.

  17. Hello. I'm new to your blog and don't know anything about you yet. You draw all these illustrations?? I love that! As for getting stuck in your own head, wow, do I know that feeling. It stops me from doing soooooo many things, even simple things. Your grandma's words are right! Listen to them!

Looking forward to getting to know you and your story more. =)
