Stinky Socks & Dumplings for EVERYONE!

Ever have one of those afternoons where your iPod knows exactly what you want to hear? I love those kind of days. That's the kind of day I'm having right now and I love it. Makes chores more fun. I swear.

In other news, Pam did a post about adding baking powder to her dumplings and that was PERFECT timing because I've been working on my dairy and egg-free dumplings and they needed a little something, something. So I added baking powder and guess what? It worked!

Hot dog!

The baking powder makes the dough softer and the chew is lovely. But it also makes it more salty - I'm a cupcake when it comes to salt - so when I make dumplings again tonight, I'll adjust my formula. But Pam's idea to add baking powder was spot on.

Thanks, Pam! You rock.

PS: The answer to the last Friday Question is, The Dentist. A round of stinky socks for everyone who played!

PPS: Pam's direct link to her, The Best Classic Chicken and Dumplings. Enjoy and boogie boogie.

  1. Even a little bit of salt can be too much when you have got out of the salt habit can't it?
    Happy baking and have fun.

    1. So true. It's amazing how salty normal things are these days. And, how much I like things better, without the extra salt.

How goes the birdies? I hope they're getting lots of water. Poor little monkeys.

    1. I'm thinking there's gotta be a fun way to make a low-carb one the way you guys like to eat. Maybe a cauliflower dumping and for you, you could add the cheese and egg. I dunno. Might work

    1. So, so true, Martha. Blogging and being on social media platforms has brought so much joy and education to my little world. It's the best. I love it.

Have you made your good soups yet this season? We've been eating them like crazy since I got the new blender.

  8. I love dumplings in stew - they're a real taste treat, and I use bp in mine also. You can also add herbs to the flour before adding liquid, things such as Italian seasoning or poultry seasoning or summer savory. Yum :)

    1. Hi Jenny! Yes, I agree on the seasonings. So much fun to play with and even add broth and stock to the dough itself. So many wonderful ways to kick it up a notch or two, or three or four ...

Oh my gosh, I got a hold of some savoury from the Farmer's Market one year. So yummy. Loved it. Never grew it myself but really enjoyed it when it was in season.

Do you make stew a lot?

    1. That's my bad for not explaining myself better. My iPod and phone ONLY have the music on that I love BUT ... sometimes I'm in a different mood and only want to hear certain songs and I love it when my iPod knows this and delivers.

Thanks on the drawing and I loved your last funny post. You crack me up.

  10. Glad the BP worked for you, Ivy! Me too, with the ipod, never now what kind of mood I'll be in, but it seems to know. Your art work rocks!

    1. Yes! That's just in too. I love all the music I have on there but sometimes, I'm in a certain mood and I only want to hear one type of music and I love when my iPod gets that.

Hey, the dumplings came out even better last night. So fun. Thank you again.

    2. Cheese making - HALTED. I don't want to spend money on that right now! Mind you, I'm still making quick ones like Ricotta and fresh Mozza! Alex's meal was DEEELISH!! He loved it! He was surprised. Actually we decided on no gifts, so for a gag, I put a bag of BBQ chips in a gift bag for him, he thought that was the tops. :D

    3. Oh my gosh, I've done stuff like that with Tim but it was those horn looking crispy things. Made of corn, I forget what they're called. But one year I got him a box. Too funny.

Love that your honey bunny was surprised. That's the best. And what a wonderful way to celebrate.

  13. We don't use a lot salt when we cook or sit at the table either. My dad had heart problems when I was growing up so I use it sparingly as a result. Have a great one!!
