SPENDING LESS ON FOOD AND LOVIN' IT

Hello Boogerbutts and Happy Weekend!

So ... tooth/teeth thing. Few hiccups. One tooth they couldn't yank and requires a specialist. Other tooth was stubborn and came out in bits and bobs, with a sliver remaining. Sorta like a splinter that may or may not work itself out.

At first, no real pain. Just tender, sore and swollen. Then one morning I woke and it felt like a truck ran over the left side of my face.

Good times.

In other news, I'm happy with how we spend less on food. Smoochie Face rarely eats out during work. Then last summer we stopped buying weekend pizzas and I went back to making homemade pizzas.  And dig this, we've also stayed to 300 bucks for every 28 days with the grocery food budget.

Love it. Love it. Love it.

In other, other news, I went back to filming food videos. None of which I've yet to edit and upload. However, looks like I'm giving YouTube another go.

And that my Boogerbutts, is all that's fit to print.

  1. I've been waiting and waiting for your dentist report. How awful! a couple years ago, I had an extraction that broke all into pieces. So do you still have a piece of tooth inside? Have you been to the other specialist yet?

    1. Hey Hey Ginny! Doing good this weekend seems like the feelings of being run over by a big truck are gone. Knock on wood. So far, no infections either. Knock on wood, twice.

Sorry yours was broken off in pieces. Not fun!

Don't know if the sliver remains. I can't feel it. Would need an x-ray to know the answer.

Thanks for stopping in. Happy Weekend!

    1. Really happy with that, Margaret. We have a buffer of an extra 100 for ingredients and so far haven't needed it however, good to have that there.

Thanks about the teeth. Seems like the yucky part is over. Fingers crossed.

  4. A sliver that may or may not work itself out?? That doesn't sound good at all. Perhaps the specialist who removes the stubborn tooth can also remove the sliver?

    1. It's no day at the park. That said, everything is pretty much back to normal this weekend.

Hey, I used to have a HUUUUGE food bill so I get it. It's very easy. Plus, ingredient shopping is THE BEST! I love it. I love going grocery shopping. However ... these days, I'd rather not spend much.

Thanks for stopping in and Happy Weekend!

That's awesome that you've done so well on the food budget. I rarely go out to eat

    1. Hey Ann. Yeah, that's what I've heard too. Thanks. The pain came serval days after and now happy to report is gone again. Woohoo.

We are not big out to eat folks either. Even before this. Just, I'd rather cook and bake at home.

LOVE that your job gave Fourth of July Bonus. I mean, how cool is that!

  8. Good job on the food budget. That is miserable about the dental work, though. I had one that took an oral surgeon to take it out because the roots were so deep and they weren't able to fill the tooth properly so it 'broke'. My mouth was sore for days (read that weeks). I hope yours heals quickly. xo Diana

  13. A splinter in the gums does not sound like a good time. ): Hooray on the food budget! I am cooking less and loving life. Who knows if it will change, but for now, I can pretty much find what I need at Trader Joe's with a trip to HEB maybe once every couple weeks for stuff like toilet paper and such. Its so hot, I barely feel like eating.

    1. Hey Gina! Great to see you. I wish we had a HEB. I've heard good things. I actually heard HEB has great salsa. How fun is that. I'm glad you're finding what works for you. I totally get that. I have a friend who eats out each day and that works for her, too.

  16. I really miss not having an aldi store nearby. If you can have a garden where you live you can harvest and freeze, can or dehydrate. I did that for many many years til we moved to the lake just recently can save a lot of money and get better food happy weekend

    1. Hi Kathy! Yes, I agree with you. Growing stuff at home is an excellent savings. Such fun too!

Sorry to read that you no longer have an ALDI. Maybe a new one will pop up in your area? I heard more and more stores are coming.

      That'd be great!

  18. Your dental situation sounds concerning. I had a bum tooth a few years ago. Required an oral surgeon to remove. Leave a sliver to work itself out? Please keep us posted.
Good job on food shopping! I've made the decision (again) to buy less pre-packaged food and cook more from scratch. May the force be with us both!

    1. Hey Abby. Sorry about your bum tooth. Glad they got it out.

Excellent on the less processed stuff. I'm a scratch cook and a scratch baker and I tell you what... it rocks! So fun. So much freedom and just pure joy. I love it!

Hope you have a blast. Bring on the fun eats.

PS: Do you have an electric pressure cooker? Crazy fun.

Do you have an electric pressure cooker? Game changer. Dead easy. Crazy fun.

  23. it was fun today reading your post and then each comment and your answer..... lots of info there. I assume your 300 is edible stuff only, I don't know what the food costs, because I shop WM and buy everything there, each week runs 150 to 165, in 2024 it was 80 to 90 per week, still buy the same things.. I buy the same stuff over and over. this includes TP and cleaning supplies, bob's 7 up and gator aid, tooth paste all things needed to survive that are non edible. 12 dollars for a gallon of All to do the clothes, but that last a month..

    1. Helloooooo Sandra you wonderful beautiful person, you!

Yes, this is ingredient shopping only. Household items like crapper paper, soaps and such don't have a budget. I just try and get the good sales when can.

I love that a gallon of ALL lasts you the full month. That's wonderful!

  24. I keep my food costs down by mostly ordering ingredients rather than finished items. That works! Sorry about the dental situation. I have an emergency appointment tomorrow early with a broken tooth, so we'll see!

    1. Hey Boud. I'm a scratch baker and a scratch cook so I'm right there with you. I actually say to Smoochie Face, that I'm going ingredient shopping. It's a amazing the savings just by buying whole foods vs ready-made.

      Winner, winner chicken dinner.

Ack on the emergency appointment. Hope they can fix that tooth and that you're not in pain. Sending healing wishes and good vibes your way.

  27. I have a big time dentist phobia so reading this gives me the willies. You are doing fantastic with your food budget. I added June shopping up a few days ago. $480.00, but a couple of hundred was the last day of June. I don't buy any ready-made food or any kind of chips or other things like that. Never really have. I don't eat to although we will occasionally have takeout. It blows my mind to see the bill at a restaurant. I can't help by calculate what it would cost to make at home. I would like to know your YouTube account name.

    1. Hey Sandra. Sorry to give you the willies. I can understand that. I had a hard time going for awhile and this is my price. Glad to be on the other side and back to tornado-mode at home.

I'm with you on the ready made foods. Though there are two things in my pantry that we get from ALDI that are ready-made, the organic tortilla chips and the club crackers. The rest of the lot are ingredients. Which is so fun!

Yes, the take out can get nuts. Too high for me. I can't hand over money for something I can do so easy at home. And I will do the same thing, look at what it costs at home vs out. That said, I do get that not everyone likes/wants to cook and bake at home. I have one friend who eats out every day and it works for her. So I do get that side as well.

Having said that, I have an ALDI and the time to cook and bake which also makes a difference. Oh, I made noodle dough using leftover hummus. It's in the fridge. Made a 1-2 serving. Will let you know how it turns out.

My YouTube channel is: YouTube.com/TheHappyWhisk (thanks for asking), been a long time since I posted. New stuff in the works. Happy New Week!

  28. Glad that the dental visit wasn't too awful, Ivy. Anytime I can avoid having major dental work is OK with me and thankfully all has been well aside from regular checkups and cleanings. we have never had a food budget, but try to be careful in our weekly shopping and find that things are definitely higher than even a couple of years ago 😟

    1. So true! Regular checkups and cleanings are a wonderful thing for sure. I enjoy the food budget. I enjoy the game of it and the making things stretch and coming up with fun new things to make with only what's at home. What do you find went up the most of the things you get?

    1. Hey Erika! Great too see you. Yes, prices are NUTS! Do you have an ALDI? or a Big Lots? Recently, and I don't know if it's over or not, but Big Lots had 25% off store-wide and I got a few good things there for the kitchen. I'm also seeing some good prices on things at Dollar Tree and then Dollar General now as a Dollar Isle. Some good options. Some not. I do like the game of it though. I was born to bargain hunt.
