IS THIS THE BEST OR WHAT? (+ itchy feet)

Guess what I wrote? A Cinnamon Apple Upside Down Cake. Low sugar, no eggs, no dairy and all yum. With the oven fixed, I wrote a bunch of new bakes this week.

It's wonderful.

You what's not wonderful? The in-door photography space isn't working. Plus, it's hard to keep me inside because my itchy feet keep taking me out for macro walks. Wait until you see the Marbled Orb Weaver I shot.

She's boooooteeeful.

That said, I was frustrated yesterday when I didn't have a proper place to photograph the Cinnamon Apple Upside Down Cake, and that aggravation is the fuel I'll use in the morning to make things work better.

Tim's gonna help me hang the pegboards for vertical studio space, which should lessen the challenges of a small work room. Now I'm no longer The Grumpy Spatula and back to being The Happy Whisk.

Everyone wins.

In other news, the new used camera arrived last week and I'm a snap happy fool, taking pictures of all things fall.

  1. Glad you're enjoying your new-to-you camera! And Cinnamon Apple Upside Down Cake sounds SOOOOOOOOO good! I've never made an upside down cake and I'm starting to think perhaps it's time to try.

    1. Hey Debra! Loved all the Addams Family stuff. Was fun to go through those pictures. The Cinnamon Apple Upside Down Cake is super fun and yummy. All I did was layered peeled sliced apples (that were coated in cinnamon and monk sugar combo), on the bottom of the bake dish and poured the batter over. In the end, we liked the cake from the fridge the best.

Soooooo fun. If you make one, I'd love to hear what you think.

  3. I use regular recipes, including dairy products, but haven't made an upside down cake in years, ever since my kids told me they really don't like pineapple. I think I might try a cinnamon apple one for next winter. I'll make a note in my recipe book. A sweet change from cinnamon apple pies.

    1. Your homemade pizza looked killer good! We love the Cinnamon Apple Upside Down Cake. It's just so yummy. We like ours eaten cold from the fridge though room temp isn't too bad either.

  6. Cinnamon apple upside down cake sounds delicious. It's probably good you didn't get a picture of it because I would be wanting some.
Happy that you can remain the Happy Whisk and not have to go through life as the Grumpy Spatula

  10. in 2006 after 4 years of two Kodak easy share digital cameras, I bought my first DSLR and talk about Snap Happy. I still am, but I have to use my cell phone.
I am trying to learn how to take better photos with the cell, dog and Bob and POO is all I have to take pics of... I have done the breakfast plate and nope not my thing. I have never owned or even held a whisk, but I do have 3 spatulas, for cleaning goop out of the cups I miss in, and oatmeal/grits from a bowl and grease for the bacon I fried this morning. Bob is rapidly losing weight, no appetite and will not eat much of anything. he eats a good breakfast , thus I bought the bacon. I should not eat it but boy was it good

    1. Happy Birthday to the pup!!!! I recall either Kodak or Canon was my first - I think Kodak because it was a gift used from someone no longer using it and then when that died we moved to Canon, maybe a PowerShot? Something like that. Can't say for sure. It was gobs ago.

If you're looking for help with cell phone photos, have you looked on YouTube a channel called The Bite Shot. Joanie has a video there on how to take better cell phone photos. YouTube.com/TheBiteShot/Videos -

I understand about the food. When Tim was sick it was whatever I could get him to eat and for him, it was peanut butter GF toast and sliced oranges. Some black coffee at times. He's better now but back then he could barely eat.

I get that cooking/baking is not your thing. It's not fun for everyone to spend hours in the kitchen or even five minutes. I get that. I'm the other way though. I can and have spend from sunrise to sunset playing in the lab/kitchen. Muwhahahahaha.

    1. Hey Billie Jo. I'm working on another draft of the cake and when it's done I'll publish it or do a video or both. Will keep you posted but in the meanwhile, very easy. Just remove the apple skins, slice and coat in cinnamon and whatever sugar (or none), and line the bottom of the bake dish with bake paper and apples. Or no bake paper if you fancy. Depends on your dish. Then pour the batter over and bing, bam, boom. Apple Upside Down!
