FLIPPIN' FLOOPIN' FLAPPIN' (that's the title I'm going with today)

Okay ... ready? Here's the BEST thing about having a small 1,000 dollar emergency fund set aside BEFORE we started to pay down debt. That little bit makes me feel safe. Makes me feel like okay, if there's a bump, we got it. And got it we do, because when the bill comes (see cartoon), we're good to go. We have it. And you know what that means? For me, no stress. Zero.

Nadda. Nadda. Nadda.

Plumbers came today, we have the money, debt still gets paid down and I didn't have to cancel the order for my new studio mic.

How flippin' floopin' flappin' groovy is that?

I had planned on writing about food today but that got blown out of the water because I had to get all the reno stuff out of the way for the plumbers, which meant I was up very, very late. So instead, I made you this cartoon and I'm sharing my latest two videos.

And that my Boogerbutts, is all that's fit to print.

Cheers and boogie boogie. Whisk, out.

    2. Sacrilege. Unbelievable that you have not seen one of the best films of all time.

  2. We’ve made that a practice of having extra put aside for emergencies too. It is liberating!

    1. Liberating. You know what, Marie. That's an excellent word for it. You nailed how I feel. That freedom, that's it, too. Liberating. Thank you. PS: I was just at your page and oh my gosh. So stinkin' cute with the head popping out.

  3. I am with you. I haven't seen either of those movies either AND for a very long time we have had an emergency stash. That emergency stash is a comfort blanket and has been wonderful. And Marie is right - truly liberating.

  8. Your cartoon is so cute! And it is so good your plumbing is finally fixed. Now, what do Princess Bride and Footloose have to do with all this?

    1. Thank you, Ginny. To answer your question, as I drew my cartoon I had music on, I'm super punchy and goofy from lack of sleep. The Footloose song came on and my sleepy brain said, "I never saw Footloose." So I put that at the end. Then my brain said, "I never saw The Princess Bride, either." And both made my giggle as I drew my cartoon and listening to the song footloose. And that's pretty much it. The cartoons reflect whatever is going on the moment I am drawing them. It's fun.

    2. With only 3 hours of sleep your brain sure goes funny! I started watching Footloose once. Booooring. Not worth it (my 2 cents). Great all went well and the rice sounds really good.
How long did you have it in the air fryer? Hubby cannot have anything in hot oil so that would be an alternative (we do have an air fryer).

    3. Hi Iris! The veggies that went in first were in for about 9 minutes and then the rice, I just kept it in until it was warm enough for me to eat. It's nice to have options if your hubby can't have anything in hot oil. I found that once I got an air fryer, I started to dislike oil more and more. Not at first, but over time. Now if I taste something heavy in oil, eww. Why does your hubby not eat it? Thank you about my brain. I was sooooo tired.

  9. A few years ago I started separate accounts for cottage, the cat, the taxes and socked away money ever month so that when I did need to pay the vet, repair a pump at the cottage or pay the taxes I wasn't struggling. It took awhile to build it up to a significant amount but I now feel like I could pay pretty much any bill without going into debt. I salute you. It's a fabulous feeling, isn't it? (And thanks for stopping by!)

    1. Hi Jeanie! I agree, having that money set aside for different things is a Game Changer for sure. I love that method and the relaxed feelings that come with it. Very, very cool. I salute you right back. It is fabulous. It feels so much like being able to breathe better. I dunno. It's just wonderful.

  10. I learned the value of an emergency fund many years ago, and I still put aside a small amount every month, even if I don't need it. Because I haven't had to use it, the amount has grown to a reasonable size, so if anything major happens, I'm ready.

    1. What kind of mic did you get? There are some great videos on different mics, here's one that might help you pick ... It's from Tech Gear Talk and I'll leave the link below. For me, I bought the RODE Wireless Go - because I wanted to be free from wires. It's not here yet. But the other desk RODE mic we have works well. Have you tried RODE brand? Very good mics. Here's a link that might help you.

  16. Very smart! I have always been a plan ahead and plan for emergencies. There was a time in my life when I was young and had my two children that if the battery went dead on the car I couldn't get to work because I didn't have the money to buy a battery but in the past 30 years I've made sure we always have enough I had to fix what breaks sorry you had to spend some of your money but don't forget to put extra back in in your safety money this is not. I've never seen either of those movies either

    1. Hi Sandy. Thank you for sharing your story, having two small kiddos and a dead battery sounds horrible. But I love the value that that brought to your life and carried with you, 30 years ahead. Very, very cool. Yes, we will for sure restore that money. I like having it. Makes me feel safe.

  18. I know people that live their lives with NO financial cushion, then wonder why they keep getting in jams. No matter how many times it happens they never seem to make the connection.

    1. Wow, that's gotta feel so scary. NO financial cushion at all. Whew. It's odd not to make the connection time and time again. Feels scary not to have something on the ready for times like this.

  21. Nothing feels better than having the funds up front when something goes wrong. We've had a slew of setbacks financially this month thanks to my stupid health insurance not paying what they should have covered on my infusions in February and then my transmission hose broke, so we had to bust out the darn credit card because it was all too much to pay for at once and ended up wiping out our savings completely. We'll rebound, but it is super disappointing when everything compounds at once and you watch your savings dwindle away.

The recipes both look scrumptious. I need to use my instapot more. I've just been too lazy to pull it out lately lol.

    1. Sorry that your health insurance is not paying what they should. That sounds frustrating. Ack. I get that super disappointing feeling. Here's to rebounding and rebuilding those funds and of course, here's to feeling better too. Oh my gosh, on the istapot (that's how I pronounce it too!), so fun to play with. What was the last thing you made?

  22. I can relate to the blood shot eyes, but not through tiredness, I cut a tree back yesterday and all the crap from it fell into my eyes. Why do I never learn, and not wear safety googles?

  27. Hi Ivy! :) Great news and smart gal. We had to take on some more debt to pay the $3700 car bill last month, oh, that hurts too much. I'm trying to push that out of my mind and pretend it never happened. Alex and I have built up a small emergency fund and we're adding to it every few weeks. So far, our expenses have flatlined and we hope there won't be too many more monetary surprises!! Footloose just makes me giggle at Kevin Bacon. I never saw it but the premise to me is silly! The Princess Bride though...I'm a wrestling fan and Andre the Giant is in it so I really enjoyed it!

Whooosh, goes the time. Whooosh, I say. Whooosh. Thanks for stopping in today. Happy New Week and boogie boogie.

  28. Plumbing problems are the worst. When we went to remodel out place we had three, count them 3 different leaks occur over one week. Delayed all the other stuff we had planned, but we got it taken care of, and it's why we didn't add a dishwasher to our design plan. Yes, I miss it, but not the expense of cleaning up after a leak. Yay for the nest egg. We finally got there too, and it is such a relief. Keep rockin the videos!
