Saturday I was The Grumpy Spatula. I woke with neck, head, shoulder, arm, hand pain and very, very, very tired. Thankfully the grumpies left that same day. Though the next two days the pain didn't. Today the pain is manageable and I'm back to work and enjoying the mad scientist baker life.
Lemme tell ya'. It's soooooo nice not having the video camera gear stuck in the corner and hanging over the work bench. Just walking over to the kitchen work bench feels freeing.
Good, good stuff.
Today's bake is a chocolate chocolate chip. Instead of beans and/or sweet potatoes/yams, I used more homemade non-dairy yoghurt. The last few bakes, I've included homemade yoghurt. Today is the first time writing a chocolate powder and yoghurt bake.
It. Works. So. Good.
The bake turned out light, airy and also fudgy. Which is a funny combo because fudgy doesn't always mean light and airy. At least not to me.
I'm tellin' ya. This homemade yoghurt phase I'm in, I just love it. Goes well for dips, spreads, bakes, flour tortillas. Non-dairy yoghurt at the market is over-priced (to me), with fillers not needed (again, to me). Making it at home ...
Game changer.
Alrighty, Boogerbutts. Be back later. I'm off to snap a shot or two, maybe make yoghurt flour tortillas and then close the kitchen for the day and dig this, no big mess. Who I am? I dunno but it's WONDERFUL to have dish done and dusted. Up next, repaint the one wall. Not today. Another time.

DeleteOuch...sounds like you need a good massage. Hoping the aches and pains ease up and you feel better. Your homemade yoghurt dishes sound very good...I'm not a chocolate eater, but I sure would give it a try...You are a very busy person....but hopefully you will give those shoulders, back and neck a rest before you paint....Have a good one.....thanks Ivy for all your humor...I love it!

DeleteI can't wait to get outside and paint, build and just play. Soon enough. Still a little too chilly and too windy for painting. Easy for stuff to blow all over an and not my idea of fun. Soon though. Very soon.
This is made with Enjoy Life chocolates. I really enjoy those for baking. Though we also get tired of chocolate as well in our kitchen. If it's been berries and chocolate, I'm gonna go with berries almost every time.

Hey Abby. I think it's a crocheting thing only I'm not 100%. It started after we moved the couch to summer mode. I sit differently and sorta have my one arm up as I look down. Or, it can be the new writing desk. I'm taking a short break from crocheting to heal so we'll see.
DeleteNon-dairy yoghurt. I don't/can't eat dairy and the cost of the non-dairy at the market it just too high and not good enough ingredients.

DeleteI assume your yogurt starts with plant milk. What process do you use to keep it warm so it ferments?
ReplyDeletePlant milks are too thin for this and come with stabilizers and other junk. Can be done. People do it with success. Some even use the shelf-stable soya and water only plant milk with great success. For me, I make a sauce base of sorts with various combinations. I love to play and experiment.
DeleteTo ferment, I keep mine in a controlled environment aka the electric pressure cooker though not in the stainless insert. I use Mason jars that fit my formula. Those who don't have an electric pressure cooker can use the inside of an oven or a warm spot in the kitchen.
I'm tellin' ya. So easy. I make a new batch once a week. Game changer.
Non-dairy yogurt is interesting. I must check it out.

DeleteI LOVE seeing my kitchen empty and all cleaned up, especially first thing in the morning. I don't understand people who "leave it for tomorrow" and then wake up to face a messy kitchen that has to be cleaned before they can cook breakfast.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool that you do that each day. That's how I am about my writing desk. I like it cleaned and ready for fresh writing the next day. The kitchen however, is sometimes left messy overnight. Boy oh boy though, is it ever nice to wake to it clean and ready for fresh bakes. Just doesn't always happen here in my mad scientist baking lab. And that's okay too.

DeleteSo sorry you're dealing with all the pain and good to know you are feeling better. I like yogurt a lot and put it in my Weetabix along with some almond milk. I used to make my own years ago. I should try that again. Feel 100 percent soon and enjoy the rest of your week.
