Spud 'n Mud

Inspired by the air fryer craze, I baked spuds in the oven without oil. Took me three tries to get what I wanted. For today's bake, I changed the shape, lowered the temp and coated with an arrowroot chili-style powder.

Up next, The Husband Test. It's when I make one or more changes to a dish but don't tell Tim. Then I watch him. Sometimes his face gets scrunchy.

As for me, I ate the entire lot. They had a crispy outside and tender fluffy innards. Eww. Innards might not be the best word. Now my face is scrunchy.

In other news, check out my new mud.

  1. Coated in chili sounds good.
My wife does that to me but mostly because she's forgotten an ingredient and hopes it didn't matter.

  2. The Hubby Test, love it. Crispy and tender the way a good fry (baked tater fry?) should be!👀

  3. Now if those were apple slices powdered in cinnamon, I'd totally be on board! Not a huge fan of french fries...not that these are exactly french fries.

  5. I love to make french fries this way. I do it when I make fish and chips. I cut them in different sizes so everyone is happy. Some come out crisp, others a bit gushy. Love it!

  9. Looking good. It is the way we cook them too. And the flavours vary depending on what is in the cupboards...

  11. Yum for the spuds. Not so much for the mud. :)

  12. Spuds look yummy and any kind of mud that promises less dust is good.

  13. The spuds look so delicious! 😋 And the photo is fantastic. Well done, you.

What are you working on with that mud? What's the latest project? We are in painting mode these days.

  14. I love potatoes just about every way I can think of, and these would be a winner for me (although without chili powder - too spicy for me). Back when I could eat acidic foods I used to oven bake fries like this, dipped in a mixture of canola oil and balsamic vinegar. Great flavour, but still ... the oil. No oil at all is better.

And no (or low) dust is better, too. You know, that stuff looks like Greek yogurt. MMMM.

  15. My taste palette isn't that good so I'm sure I'd eat all of them however they turned out and think they were good!

  16. What is mud, in this case? I did hear about the air fryer craze in USA! I hate the stench of fried food especially when breading something, so it sounds practical to me as well

  18. I love any kind of potato. Those sound pretty good. My favorite is to slice them, add butter and seasoning and wrap in aluminum foil and bake in the oven until done.

  20. Your potatoes sound good. This could be done using rutabaga/swede to I think!

Now I am wondering, what may you be working on with that mud!

    All the best Jan
