THIS IS MY RANT by The Happy Whisk

Last week I did additional research on nutritional yeast and the various synthetic and non-synthetics added.  Quick side note, nutritional yeast, aka nooch, is a deactivated yeast, flaky powder that I use to make dairy-free cheeses and sauces. Not all nooch is created equal. Some don't contain B12 and some are LOADED with synthetics. But this post isn't about nooch.

I click onto a website and BAM! The page is littered with SO MANY adverts, motion graphics, and fly by banners that I left the site.

Never to return.

I get that the owner of this page makes money through these annoying-to-me-AF, adverts but seriously, who is staying long enough to read anything?

Is this kind of bombardment the new normal, where readers don't mind the flying whirly-twirly banners, popups and even videos playing from somewhere else on the page?

And since I'm here, why can't I easily locate and shut off those videos that are playing?

I hate these sort of formats because they're clutter and bring zero value to the reader.

Zero.

Since I'm on a roll, let's talk about banners. Why on earth would I, The Happy Whisk blog or website, allow another company to have their banner over mine?

Maybe it's ego, but I don't care. My name comes first. This is my page. I put the work in. I'm not handing the top banner space over to a company that I may or may not use.

F that.

Thank you for letting me rant. If you're still reading, I award you three broken paper clips, a chocolate chip cookie, and two rotten gummy worms.

You're welcome.

In other news, I'm still fighting a low-grade, drawn-out mouth infection so I haven't been able to yippy yap on video or podcasts. But I did make a short vlog of our wall to share with you Boogerbutts. If all goes to plan, I'll complete the primer today.

And lastly ....

  1. Oh Ivy sorry to hear about the mouth infection. Lately I have been leaving sites with all the ads too. I just gave up. Hopefully they will realize it cuts down on their viewership.

    1. Hi Christine!

Thanks. Almost at the end of this phase. 11/Dec. they get pulled. I'm excited because it will mean a cleaner mouth and a cleaner gut as well.

Sounds like your Hubby had a blast with all that food. That's fun!

    1. Hi Dr. Theda!

I can understand having sponsor that you use and that you value and that helps. That makes sense to me.

It's the bombardment of senseless adverts that drive me to the other side of the moon.

Be well and boogie boogie. Thank you for stopping in today. Cheers!

Yes, those kinds of ads and videos annoy me as well. Too many and I leave the site. Never allowed ads on my blog or the IWSG site.

    1. Hi Alex!

Thanks. I see the oral surgeon on 11/Dec. and I am happy to have the teeth pulled.

Happy Monday to you. And I agree about the no adverts and leaving.

  4. Good rant, Ivy! And I agree with you 100% -- I hate those kinds of sites too and leave asap! Glad you're starting to get out and about a little!

    1. Hi Debra!

They are clutter to me. No value.

Yeah, it was real nice to get to the Co-Op and then hit Barnes. And then on 11/Dec. I'll get the bad tooth as well as the wisdom teeth out.

Cannot wait. Very excited to get a clean healthy mouth.

Thanks for stopping in and boogie boogie.

I was just telling Rain. Ours isn't working but then as I was writing her, I thought, maybe we never installed in on the new computer. I dunno. I will have to check with Smoochie Face.

      Thanks!

    1. Hey Sue!

I'm not in any pain and I tell you the truth. Breaking this old root canal tooth was a blessing. Because now, I'm getting my four wisdom teeth out and this front one. That means, a cleaner mouth. That means better digestion. It's all a good thing.

So agree with you about the adverts and my gosh, so much buy, buy, buy. Of what? So much junk. No thanks.

  7. Ads annoy me, too. It's why I don't put them on any of my sites. Not that I get a lot of visitors to make money off them! Hahahahahaha!!!!

Hope your mouth is feeling better soon!

    1. Hi Stacy!

I agree. I have no interest in running those kinds of adverts on my page, either.

Thanks. I am not in any pain at all. Just a mild, low-grade, on-going infection until the tooth comes out 11/Dec.

      Thanks for stopping in.
      Cheers and boogie boogie.

  8. Oh gosh...I still cringe at the idea of 5 teeth being YANKED out...I hope your mouth infection eases...mine took way too long! Actually I'm back at the butcher...ahem, dentist on Thursday. The molar on my other side cracked, can you believe this??? At least it's just a filling, I can handle that! Soup for a few days after that though!

Honestly if I get the pop up "turn off ad blocker" crap, I instantly close the tab and move on. Those annoying videos too. I have ad blocker and pop up blocker on Chrome but can't get them on my phone so I never browse there. Nice to hear your voice Ivy! :)

    1. Hey Rain!

Sorry to hear about the cracked tooth. The butcher. You're funny.

It's okay, it's a low-grade, mild infection that will clear up once that tooth, the old root canal comes out.

Went to the Co-Op and got healing foods for after 11/Dec when I get them yanked.

To be honest, I am excited to get it done. I cannot wait because a clean healthy mouth is in progress.

Glad yours is just a filling.

We tried ad blocker but it doesn't seem to work. I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we didn't install it on the new computer. I'll have to ask Smoochie Face. Thanks.

PS: Pretty winter day here. I got to spend most of it outside instead of priming the wall. How went your Monday?

    2. I'm glad to hear it's a low grade infection, still though, it sucks!!! Even though I dread the dentist, I can't wait to get this taken care of too, so I know what you mean. I think I have two ad blockers on my Chrome...Alex set it up for me. It's cold and damp and dark out there! Monday was lazy...but I'm learning how to draw with charcoals so I'm really excited about that!

    3. I swear, it's not bad. I love my dentist though. She is amazing. And my surgeon is a super cool dude. So that helps. But mostly, I'm all in. Getting my mouth fixed. I don't see it as a sucky thing. I see it as a positive.

Charcoals. Very, very, very cool. Love that. I will send you some winter sun. We have bunches. Just waiting for my wood to dry outside. It might be too cold, not sure. But I put them in the sunny side.

Lazy days are fun too. I love it when Tim is home and we're having a lazy day. Like the kind of day where I'm in my jams until the afternoon. Shower. Then get into fresh jams!

  9. I agree wholeheartedly with your rant, Ivy :)

Many YouTube videos I want to watch have popup ads but I've learned to block them out of my eyes, lol

Good luck at the dental surgeon. It's such a good feeling to get that kind of crappy stuff dealt with and over.

Thanks for stopping in and boogie boogie.

  12. I HATE sites like that, where you can hardly find the actual content between all the other stuff. Videos that play can be turned off or at least not heard, by turning off your own laptop speakers or muting the sound, but even then, with all the other spinning or flashing stuff, just click away. The spinning and flashing is the worst for me, because of the headaches I get from them. I just stay away from sites that I know are bad for me, healthwise.
Hope you are better by now.

    1. Hi River. I'll be able to start to heal properly after 11/Dec when the five teeth come out. Looking forward to it!

Yes, so insane and getting more and more adverts each day and like you mentioned, can hardly even find what I want and in some cases, I can't read at all.

Ack! Drives me to the other side of the moon.

Thanks for stopping by today! Cheers and boogie boogie.

  15. Thanks for visiting my blog, Ivy! I'm sorry that you have a mouth infection, and I hope that it clears up soon and you can finish your dental work. And thank you for your rant! I'll piggyback on your comments about those ads. They make me crazy; and when things start popping up, I immediately leave the site and don't go back! We're in the middle of a big snowstorm here in Colorado. I love the photo of your dogs in the snow. Have a good one!

    1. Hi Suz! No sense. No and it's more and more and more and MORE. When I get my food site together, I just don't want that.

That said, I'm not against a creator working with a company that the creator uses, sponsored posts. But those whirly twirly adverts and noise. ACK!

Thanks. I'm in zero pain and can do stuff here at home. Working on the trailer this week. Sanded and sealed wood yesterday. Just can't talk as much.

Thanks for stopping by and boogie boogie!

Sorry to read about the mouth infection.

I had a dental check up today and a big smiling face, I was fine and don't need to go back until next year :)

You haven't got too long to wait until your appointment have you …

    1. Hi Jan!

Not too long to go. 11/Dec is my surgery.

I love to read that you're all good and set for the next year. Do they do cleanings once per year?

Our dentist does twice, I think. Though for some, three times depending on the build-up.

Thanks about the video. Just a little one-off to show you guys where I'm at.

    2. The Dentist I go to recommends cleaning twice per year … but more if necessary!

  18. Cool rant! Totally with you on this one. Some sites are so loaded with ads that it honestly slows down my computer. Makes me nuts! So I leave those websites/blogs/pages and never want to go back. I don't mind ads because I get that people make a living from them, but PLEASE try and keep them to a normal level!

Hope you're feeling better from that mouth infection. Sounds like a pain in the you know what.
