What a sad thing.
I guess now that I write this, I remember getting my first McDouble, no pickle and medium iced coffee, on the ride into work. Work started at supper, so I'd eat on the ride in. And I'd eat that same meal, anywhere from three to four times per week. Or basically, every Cinderella (closing) shift.
What a dumbass.
Then if I was closing with a turnaround the next morning, I'd stop and get a McGriddle and medium iced coffee. That would be at least once per week, except for back when they had me on continuous close open, close open.
Then I'd eat more. I'm not sure how many more times I can type the word dumbass, but you get the idea.
And the truth is, before this, I NEVER understood how people ate out so much. I was the biggest food snob. One, I'm a WAY better scratch cook. Two, my food is less expensive. And three, it wasn't good for my heart. But even with all this, I still managed to land a seat on the Fast Food Train.
Dumbass, it is.
PS: As I was finishing this post, I got a call from my old boss called and I'm officially hired back. Just have a bit more paperwork to do tomorrow and then if all goes well, I'll be back to work next week. Because after all, I'm not dead yet.
PPS: I was going to wait to show you these but I'm here now so what the heck. Yesterday I snagged a bag of Bulgur Wheat Cereal. Or that's what the package reads. Either way, it's something I've wanted to try but haven't. So I'm giving it a go. I'm thinking, homemade sesame sticks.
That's all for now. Thanks for reading.

Yeah! Glad you got your job back!
ReplyDeleteI never eat fast food. I don't even remember the last time I had French Fries from McDonald's.
Alex: You're not missing anything.
ReplyDeletehave you watched Jamie Oliver's shows in which he was changing the food that kids in UK eat in school canteens? When he managed to change their diet in schools most of the kids got rid of astma, of aggressive behaviour etc only because they were not eating fast food but normally cooked food.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've never been to McDonalds, but you should Google what kind of meet they actually use there and how they make it.... it's seriously disturbing and disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI love your hearts falling!!
ReplyDeleteIm not a big fan of Mac donalds but my son yes:(
love your header whish, love this dog is the cutest dog!
ReplyDeleteI can say with great certainty that you are not a dumbass! You may have participated in behaviour that you thought was dumb, but that does not make you dumb! Beating yourself up won't change the past! Just commit to your new diet and take pleasure in the tastes and health that it brings!
ReplyDeleteAlso big congrats on getting your job back!! So happy for you!
Glad you got your old job back and you can't beat a Maccy D's!
ReplyDeleteDEZMOND: It's amazing what good food will do. And Oliver's doing lots of good out there.
ReplyDeleteDEZMOND: Lots of gross stuff going on and again, I ask you, why don't you have a food blog yet?
Gloria: Thanks, they are fun.
Gloria: That's Baby Bug. She's all trouble, but tons of cute.
Jen: Oh, thank you for the sweet comment but trust me, I am not beating myself up. What's done is done, now we move from here.
Rather exciting in some ways.
Ray: Super great flag you had today. But I still think a Lurker Flag would be the BEST.
Oh after I read Fast Food Nation...I'd never eat there again. Well....never say never ;D
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got your old job back :D
Kim: I saw that one but didn't read it yet. Did love Super Size Me. But then I'm a big Morgan Spurlock fan. Hopefully, I'm spelling his name correctly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
Congrats on the job! Oh, yes and it amazingly easy to fall in the quick food fix mode.
ReplyDeleteSouthpaw: Thanks. I'm both excited and nervous about going back to work.
ReplyDeleteIt really was easy. Crazy stuff.
Time to get back on the slow track! Congrats on getting your old job back...I hope it means we'll see more bulgar-like pictures! Actually, a bular and peas recipe was the worst meal I've ever made, which speaks more to the recipe than the bulgar itself.
ReplyDeleteDaisey: Been resting for weeks, so I'm happy to get back to a regular easy morning schedule.
ReplyDeleteWorst recipe? Oh no. Was it a warm dish or served cold? These little buggers have been haunting me but not until this week did I get them.
So glad to hear you got your job back. Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteAbout the only time I do fast food anymore is when we're traveling. It's quick and convenient. Even then, we try to stick to Subway or something a little healthier.
Enjoy cooking! It'll be a win-win for you, huh?
I thought I was a foodie, then I realized I'll eat almost anything. I just love food! It's my favorite thing to eat.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear how those sesame sticks turn out!
ReplyDeleteHanny: I don't want to be a snob like I was before. But I'm not going to be eating salty-fat-crap window food anymore.
ReplyDeleteDana: Me too.
I was going to ask, isn't the Fast Food expensive in your neck of the woods? Here in South Africa, it's ridiculous - so people don't eat out that much purely because they can't afford to. But it's easy to get stuck in that cycle, particularly because there's something about the ritual of a routine that becomes so soothing and comforting after a while.
ReplyDeleteAzra: We have dollar menus at nearly all the window-meal places. My burger was a buck. But over time, not cheaper than my stockpile at home.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't comforting or soothing to me, at all. It was just me being lazy.
Well done on getting the job back and ditching the fast food. Either one would be a major thing, but both together is excellent. How did the bulgur work out?
ReplyDeletePorky: Didn't get a chance to use it yet. But it's on the list of bakes. Very excited about it. Have you used it and do you like it?
ReplyDeleteI can't recall the last time I was in a McDonalds. It's been a long while.
